"The Very Best of The Smiths" - typographical errors
posted by davidt on Wednesday June 06 2001, @09:00AM

Jeff writes:

Okay, this is inexcusable. The tracklisting on the back of the recently released "Very Best Of" CD reads...

2. THE BOY WITH *A* THORN IN HIS SIDE

It's not "A"... it's "THE"!!!!

23. STOP ME IF YOU'VE HEARD THIS ONE BEFORE

Where's the "THINK"????

The same mistakes are made in the titles in the cd booklet. And someone called "John Ported" produced Smiths tracks (look on the back of the CD...) This is disgraceful. Angry Smiths fans of the world unite, and take over!!!

I think that this will only find an end when Morrissey manages to release his new material, then he'll be respected enough and they will have to think twice about what they are doing. I'm so shocked that didn't happen already, today I was reading how the Tindersticks simply found another "alternative" label because they were not satisfied with Islands. I know very well that alternative ceases to be so when everybody does that, but that's not the point, being "alternative" or not - what's important is to continue that fascinating "music school" of the 90s and 10s of introspection, poetry and thought - those are the values to be defended, while being "alternative" would still be the commercial side of it.

Maybe when they were doing the layout for this CD, they were just a little company, few employees, little revenue, and the album was going to be a bootleg. Then the guy in the mailroom who just got the job, a true Morrissey fan with the pomp, sideburns, Morrissey ticket stub from 1992 in his wallet next to a picture of Morrissey which is next to his mother's picture won the lottery found out about the bootleg & begged his boss to make it a national release with his winnings.

Then, all too excited about his boss okaying the album being made, the mailroom clerk overlooked that the bootleg layout was kept.

I am sure that everyone has seen the early live Smith's Concerts, one mistake I have seen, FAR too many times, the track "The Crack in the Head" on the lists.

As for John Ported, they should be dragged out & shot for that. Even my mother knows that. Alls I can say is that the "R" is just above the "D" on the keyboard. Again, too excited was the mailroom clerk with A thorn in his side.

Perhaps for Morrissey's Very Best Of, they'll call Suedehead, "I'm So Sorry" as I have heard it has been called on the West Coast*.

            * no offense to all on the West Coast intended... because my heart dreams of LA.
