Has nobody noticed how "Man Machine" by Robbie Williams sound exactly like "What Difference Does It Make?" especially in the beginning? Somebody should report it to Mr. Williams...

Seriously, hasn't anybody read the KLF guide to getting a number 1 hit: rule 1 is to cover another song - or alternatively write something that sounds like a cover. You know it will be successful, because it has been before. Also, so the argument goes, the DJs will play it and the dads and moms will buy it too because it reminds them of songs they used to like when they were young !

My problem with Robbie Williams is the ambiguity that surrounds his talent. If he really wants to be taken seriously - which he isn't being at the moment - he needs to prove he can write a decent tune on his own, not with the help of Guy Chambers etc etc.

I'm sure half of Robbie's 'troubles' are because of his inability to be taken seriously and knowing that he isn't creating something that's truly his own.

Robbie Williams is NOT a disgrace to music. I can think of several others who take on that position. And, anyway, didn't we have this discussion before? Why is everybody so hateful when it comes to Robbie Williams?? Even if he is trying to be like Morrissey - well, that's a good thing, right? When you think about it, how many of us try to be like Morrissey everyday? And, if we could have an opportunity like Robbie Williams, how many of us would base our demeanor and way of singing on the way Morrissey does it??

It's a waste of time degrading someone for emulating another. We should be happy it's Morrissey (if indeed he is doing that)rather than someone really disgracful...like David Gray (and I only mention Gray because so many of us spoke about disliking him before. However, David Gray doesn't matter to me one way or the other, except that he makes me a little dizzy...)

My point is, you don't like Robbie because of his music, well, fine. But don't be so quick to judge him just because he makes certain facial expressions, or a certain song sounds like a certain Morrissey/Smiths song -That's just ridiculous.

robbie williams is an absolute toss-pot who is utterly beneath contempt. there are rumours that he is considering joining Queen as their lead singer which, in case you previously had any doubts, says it all.

he, like kylie minogue, is a pop whore who will record with anyone and everyone to boost his profile.

he threatened bernard butler with physical violence once when bb suggested that his talents were limited, and he walked out of an interview with NME when he couldn't cope with vaguely challenging questions. in one of his songs he sings ;'come and have a go if you think you're hard enough' to which the nme replied 'we did and he bottled it'.

if morrissey was once considered the 'greatest living englishman' then williams must surely be the worst.

Tosspot? That's humourous...but, I don't really put a lot into what the NME say, or any British music magazine for that matter (other than perhaps Q). As for what you say about his threatening Bernard Butler with physical violence, well that wasn't necessary, I agree, but some people really have a hard time with constructive critcisim (!). I'm not saying that those things are ok or justified - I just like some of his songs and he always has a smile on his face, so what the hell, you know? It's not like I have to come face to face with the guy everyday, or that he's anything as dear to me as Morrissey. And, I think to say Robbie is the worst englishman alive is a bit harsh...I've personally known a few horrible englishmen myself.

My original post was to say - why take him so seriously if everybody thinks he's just a joke? Dear God, laugh and go on...put your energy into something you actually like! And, anyway, it's not like Robbie hasn't been around for awhile, either, so there's talent somewhere - you don't get anywhere doing nothing and not pleasing some people - But, I know what you're thinking.

Anyway, I respect your opinion, but I just wish people wouldn't be so judgemental over silly issues such as what has been posted.
