Deftones cover "Some Girls..." in concert

I was at a Deftones concert in London Arena on 24th of March, only for this pretty intense band to suddenly cover "Some Girls are Bigger Than Others". They re-did it as a version about 1 1/2 min. long, picking up from the second verse. Being in a room with metalheads I was the only one who knew the words so I sang loud and proud. Not an important story, but a cool little experience.

Deftons are much more than just a band. They have followed many influences & I have seen them live 3 times. At all 3 shows, they played great covers, ranging from Just Like Heaven by the Cure to Say It Ain't So by Weezer. They even did Holiday by Madonna, well about 30 seconds of it. They are awesome.

I saw Deftones in San Francisco a few months ago and before one song, I don't remember which, Chino sang, "la la la lala la la la. I'm a girl and you're a boy. Throw your homework onto the fire. Come out and find the one who loves you." I met Stef (the guitar player) the next day and asked him if they would ever do and other Smiths/morrissey covers in the studio and he said he would like to but wasn't sure. I hope they do.

The deftones are not the only heavy band that love the Smiths and Moz. Pantera's lead singer has supposedly said he "loves the Smiths because they are such bad asses" and if you watch the AMAZING Fugazi doucumentary "Instrament" you can catch Ian Macay (Mackay?) jammin out some Moz on the way to a show.

Man, I was just listening to a comp CD-R I made with Deftones and Smiths on it...Chino is a very great singer and lyricist. I love White Pony very much, one of the best releases of last year.
But Pantera?!? Yikes. That's even weirder cause Pantera is on the same comp. Sort of strange...a band called "Anal Cunt" that makes offensive, 20 second songs such as "Your pregnant so I kicked you in the stomach" and "Hitler was a sensitive man" - they've made a song called "Morrissey" where they just chant his name and scream(not much talent). There is also a mention of him in "Morrissey Kicking the Crap out of Johnny Violent" and in "Art Fag"(these guys are 'phobes, or just doing it for the attention) - they mention that the song's homosexual character listens to the Smiths. A.C. worships Pantera, they've even done a duet before with Dimebag(lead singer of Pantera). Personally I dislike Anal Cunt except for some occasional humor that comes from their anti-censorship offensive bashing(that doesn't make me like Eminem though). They even have a song called "Anal Cunt Sucks" so it is all for fun. But Dimebag liking Moz? That would be a strange day. I'm one of those Moz/Smiths fans that has radical tastes(Tori, Faith No More/Bungle, Deftones, Weezer, Bjork, Aphex Twin) and this really pleases the crossover. Imagine a Moz/Dimebag duo or a Moz/Chino duo! YOWZA! PLEASE DO IT!

I WAS surrounded ny metalheads, but obviously people who have enough taste to like the deftones would have enough taste to like the smiths. lo siento.

2)deftones ARE a great band, listen to "teenag'r" or "Change" to hear powerful, subtle songs. they may be metal, but they are so much more than the stereotype.

3)Don't insult me since it's counterproductive, as I was just letting everyone know of a story related to this site.

4)That is all. For now. but then How Soon s Now??? (i know that was terrible, don't bother pointing it out....)
