The World Won't Listen has been voted number 50 in a poll of the best 100 record covers of all time.

The poll in Q magazine has The Smiths album, crediting Morrissey as designer, as number 50.

The number 1 slot went to The Sex Pistol's God Save The Queen.

The World Won't Listen sleeve features a photograph from the book "Rock and Roll Times" by Jurgen Vollmer. His collection of pictures were taken in Hamburg and Paris between 1961 and 1964. Vollmer had also taken early pictures of The Beatles.

Joy Division's Closer was voted number 2 in the poll while Nirvana's Nevermind came out at number 3.

I know it's a silly poll, and I know it isn't life or death, but so far as I'm concerned The Smiths are responsible for at least 20 or so of the 50 best covers. They really set the standard for record covers (god only knows why Morrissey felt the need to start plastering himself over almost everything he released when he went solo).

Will people please stop mentioning this band?! Nevermind is the 3rd best album cover of all time? What? Ever heard of Abbey Road or any of The Smiths' covers? Nirvana is not good! Four power chords and you've completed their entire catalogue. Oh, but wait, I forgot, Curt Kobain blew his head off his shoulders, so we have to consider him "great." How cowardice and futile is it to say that Nirvana had anything good to do with anything? (Except for that People Magazine cover!) The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin, The Smiths, Nirvana...reminds me of the Sesame Street tune, "which one of these is not like the other..." Note to Nirvana fans: you never had a good taste in music before you heard Nirvana, and you don't have a good taste in music now. Ummmm...I feel much better now. Good night to the widow of Kobain, and to Frankie Bean!!!! See you at a restaurant in Hollywood with our man sometime or NEVERMIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the poll of the best record covers of all time has been put into a proper book by Q...........(it retails at £5.99.)
i've got to say its a weird collection of best covers.
for a start theres just the one from the smiths / mozz catalogue, which is nuts.
John Squire's awful stone roses splogginess pops up in there and so does REMs "Green" lp, which even Stipey would probably say , christ wot were we thinking when we did that !

so basically its another strange poll from a supposed ground breaking magazine, that have embarked on another space-filler.

wot i dont understand is WHY make it into a book.......jeeez the mag costs enough!!!!!!!
      ....miffed.......
