The cameo role of Morrissey in Michael Winterbottom's "24 Hour Party People" has been cast, to newcomer James Cartwright.
The site has a photo of Cartwright as Morrissey; and it's well, pretty dreadful. I suspect I'm not going to be the first fan to say "Ew" on sight of that photo. Hmmm. What's up with the hair? He looks like Kramer from "Seinfeld."
Having said that, I've got high hopes for the film, which sounds interesting... spanning the history of Factory Records and the Hacienda. All current events are eventually history, I guess. --- Images/bio from the above link, "24 hour Party People" cameo corner:

JAMES CARTWRIGHT Bless, he's playing Morrissey...
24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE is going to be a hive of cameos. In virtually every scene, there is a face from television, film, or from the true history behind the film itself. This issue:
JAMES CARTWRIGHT

Stephen Patrick Morrissey, possibly the world's most famous recluse, was marginally more on the scene in the late 70s, where we find his character weaving in and out of a couple of scenes in the movie. The period is pre-Smiths, and the young M is desperately trying to get the attention of the industry.

Sprightly James is also newcomer, having only recently made his feature debut in Danny Boyle's eagerly awaited Mancunian tale 'Vacuuming Completely Nude In Paradise'. James wasn't too aware of the extensive and possibly seminal Smiths back-catalogue: "I wasn't a big fan before the film, but I started getting into it" explains James. "I've started listening to it in my own time now, I enjoy it, it's fantastic!"
James is in fact, James Jr, as his father is none other than northern über-playwright, Jim Cartwright, writer of classic stage plays such as 'Road', 'Two' and 'The Rise and Fall of Little Voice' (later made into a smash movie, starring Jane Horrocks).

| James is Morrissey |
James, who will next be seen in ITV's A&E, sadly has not had a chance to speak to his real-life counterpart, with current speculation unable to agree on which continent the real Morrissey currently resides. "The good thing is he's such an inspiration to so many people, but that's why it's got to be just right." says James. "I've not had a chance to speak to him. I'd like to, to see what he thinks about me doing it." ---
