Morrissey in Brazilian media

Fabricio writes: This month the readers of Bizz magazine (the most important magazine about music here) chose the Morrissey show as the 2nd best international one in Brazil! Sonic Youth was chosen the best international show.

Rico writes: I was watching a sports channel on Brazilian TV when, out of the blue, the hostess said that "even Morrissey would be extremely surprised to know that some people who work for the schools of Samba in Rio (it was during the Carnival) actually listen to songs like HEAVEN KNOWS I´M MISERABLE NOW while working on the allegoric cars that parade on the avenue". Well, the oddest thing is that she didn't mention THE SMITHS and talked about Morrissey as if he were extremely popular in Brazil. Well, Morrissey has many, many fans in Brazil but that was really surprising. The second most bizarre thing was that there was no connection between what she said and the next report, which was about soccer.

I was taken aback and immediately put on Bona Drag to an endless listening. Great, but strange.

That is so cool! I know, Brazilians have a great taste in music. BTW, I like Sepultura! I also like modern-day Brazilian heavy metal scene. Hope, next Football's World Cup would be Brazilian! Viva Brazil! Viva Moz!

Yes, we have Morrissey in our hearts and lives.

Sudenly I remember that movie "The lady from Shangai", and there is an amazing scene where beautiful Orson welles describes the sea of Fortaleza(Brazil). Very odd, bizarre, and lovely.

Brazil is the place of music in general. Hey Morrissey, take a look on the new land. Learn what I know, and what I don't know. "It's all true".

        Splendid people, Brazilians... (Score:1)
The only thing I don't like about them is that Scotland keep drawing them in the first round of the World Cup. And losing. Revenge will be had next year!

But nice to see these references in the Brazilian media - it shows both the international appeal of Moz/Smiths and the good taste of the Brazilian people. And of course Brazil gave us Sepultura, a genuinely first rate band...Roots is one of the greatest albums ever made, and not only in the metal genre. But probably not a mainstay in the CD players of most folk here at Morrissey-Solo...

It's no surprise that Moz is so popular in Brazil. After all, legend has it that Moz's old man was good enough to play for Man U. And we all know about Moz's exploits on the track.
