"Please, Please, Please..." on Weather Channel
posted by davidt on Tuesday February 13 2001, @10:00AM

I didn't know so many of you watched The Weather Channel. SprHldJim writes: Ok, so I am in Boston, in a downtown hotel. I turn on the television, tuning to the Weather Channel only to hear the strains of Please, Please, Please, Let me Get... (A MUZAK (Mozak?) style version) playing as the music bed during the local forecast display. I thought I was dreaming, or having a nightmare. It was still there in the a.m. to disprove my dream theory. Has anyone else heard this? Most of the cut is indistinguishable but there is one segment of it that is unmistakable. (Nissan, overnight news, Drew Carey, now the Weather Channel?) Is the world catching up to us??? or have we infiltrated the world? About as trivial as it gets...

suedeheadDaddy also writes: Well, there I was checking out the Weather Channel yesterday, ya know, just to see what my day was going to be like, when I hear a familiar tune. I guess someone at the Weather Channel is a Smiths fan, cause it was "Please, Please, Please..." I think it was the same arrangement that was used in the rad 80's movie "Ferris Beuller's Day Off." Yes, I said RAD (cause it was)! So, keep an eye on the storm, and your ears on the song!

Holly Bishop writes: This morning I thought I recognized the song being played during the local forecast on The Weather Channel. Then it clicked...it was "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want". It was not one of their jazzy selections but a very nice Muzak ballad. It made my Monday seem a little less like a Monday.

And finally, sailor girl writes: you all beat me to reporting the drew carey/girlfriend in a coma thing. i never watch the show and i wondered why i was watching it and then i found out! that was yesterday. today i had the weather channel on and during the "your local forecast" part they had a muzak version of "please please please let me get what i want" playing in the background! wow! two days in a row. what's this world coming to?

That was the instrumental version of "please please please let me get what I want" covered by The Dream Academy on the Weather Channel.
I heard it Sunday night around 12:30 during the Local Forecast portion.
I started howling with laughter, and slept with smile on my face that evening. Hope others did also.

Personally, I enjoy watching TWC and have done so for almost a year now. They (meteorologists) are so friendly and (perhaps overly) enthusiastic but still seem genuinely concerned. Uhh...plus I have the biggest crush on one of the on-camera personnel. But anyway, it is the instrumental version that is the same from "FBDO" and it plays during YOUR local forecast on the eights. I've noticed it for a couple of months but was just going to post a little FYI but I'm a little shocked that someone beat me to it. Some good days I've heard it 3 or 4 times a day and I always thought that they were playing it just for me. FYI: I've also heard "Dear Prudence" by another English band played during YLF.
