Leo García's new single "Morrissey"

Charles Byron writes: Finally, Leo García's new single "Morrissey" was released by indie label Frágil Discos. Even though I prefer the acoustic version I once heard in concert to the techno-pop one that they released (recorded only with an acoustic guitar and a synthesiser played and programmed by Leo), I think is a more meaningful thing to compose a whole song dedicated to HIM than recording another crappy version of "How Soon Is Now?" or "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want".

An anonymous person also writes: Leo Garcia, a promising new pop star in Argentina, and a music journalist called Pablo Schanton, have recently composed and released a song that in a few weeks has become a gay anthem in Buenos Aires. The song, called Morrissey, has these first lines (sorry for the translation): (speaking to a lady) "There's something you dont know, your boyfriend and me often gather together to listen Morrissey"

    haha That's actually pretty funny!

Well, as much as I am OPPOSED to cover bands, I do agree with the comment of it being better to write a song about Moz himself than the usual "cover songs".

You can go to Napster and download this, but be warned, it's not that great. I don't speak Spanish, so I have no idea what he's singing, and he pronounces Morrissey as "Morrisay". Also, in your search put "Morrisey" as that seems to be how they spell it on Napster.

As pleased as I can feel, seeing that someone from Argentina (I´m Argentinean too) loves Moz and writes a song specially for him, I still would like to say something about it. First of all, excuse my bad english. I think Leo García´s song is, musically, a very lousy one. But, besides that, I don´t like his attitude as a Moz´s fan and this is why: a few months ago, a suplement of an Argentinean newspaper, Clarín, dedicated to music asked peolple from the local musis scene to make a review of "the best" during the year 2000. They were asked to name, among other things, the best show of the year. As you may know, Morrissey visited Buenos Aires in March, for one show only in which Leo García himself played before HIM. L. García, when asked, DID NOT name Morrissey´s show, he named someone else´s. My question is: If he is such a big fan of Moz as he claims to be, why didn´t he think that the first, and probably only, Morrissey´s show that Buenos Aires enjoyed is not important enough to be said it was the best of the year?
Sorry again for my english and thank you for letting me write this for you.

I had the opportunity to see Leo Garcia perform this past week at an acoustic showcase in NYC. His performance was the best that night. Morrissey fans should not feel that he is trying to ride the coat tails of Morrissey's fame. It's simply a well written song in honor of him. The English translations does not serve the lyrics justice. You have to listen to the song, preferably acoustic, to see what I mean. Latin alternative music fans should watch this guy. He is going to be big.

Vicar in a Tutu? Love Cats?
