VH1 - The Wire, new album update. Excerpt:

Janet Jackson is also beavering away at her next record. She told the BBC that her new songs are less likely to be "What Have You Done for Me Lately" than "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now," with the lyrics focusing on her depression and mental health.

"I don't have anything to lose," she explained about her Morrissey-esque turn of rhyme. "People view me as crazy! I'm a Jackson! They think my whole family's crazy! Whatever's going on in my life I always write about it, and that's what the albums have always been about. I talked about it in the hope to help other kids, and to let them know that if they needed help to reach out, that they're not alone. There are people out there for them."

I just don't like a snobbish attitude. I love Morrissey's music more than anyone else's except for Tori Amos, who I consider his equal. I connect very personally to who they are, in many ways Tori is who I wish I was, and Moz is who I am; the deep love I have for them goes beyond just their music, it's a personal connection.

I don't own any of Janet Jackson's music, but I don't loathe it, and I don't think that just because she's Janet Jackson that means ANYthing about what she can do or might do in the future, and she's got nothing to do with Morrissey and his music, good or bad. I may not love her or her music, but I don't think she's a bad person. Just because she hasn't connected to me like Morrissey has, that doesn't give me any right to hate her. I don't really hate ANYONE unless they're hurting someone, and Janet seems like she doesn't have a mean bone in her body. Morrissey's "planet" being a wonderful place to visit doesn't mean anyone else's is in the armpit of the galaxy. And I don't think it's right to react so strongly to something you don't know jack shit about; no one has heard this new album!

I think a major reason why Steve was never totally and completely showered in Fame, is because respectively, he kept a respective distance, so to speak. With his true stance which is so unique and fascinating, couldn't that be attractive to a "star" of Janet Jackson's proportion, as a great thing to copy and give to those of the MTV, VH1 world who probably know very little of the real mccoy, Morrissey?

It was the WRITER of the article who drew the Moz parallel. Janet, or as she is known to those of us who are nasty, Ms. Jackson, never even mentioned Morrissey. He was never even mentioned int the BBC interview the VH-1 writer cites. So those of you who were delighted or horrified by this item, you can read the original BBC interview here:
