The mention was included in the Random Notes section of the new Rolling Stone (January 18, 2001 issue) [pg. 14]. The text is as follows:
MORRISSEY AN SRC FAN

The reclusive Morrissey turned up at L.A.'s Whisky A Go-Go to witness Bay Area quartet Snake River Conspiracy performing their version of the Smiths' "How Soon Is Now?" SRC feature former Third Eye Blind guitarist Kevin Cadogan, but that's not what brought Morrissey out. "I went there because of the song," the Mozzer says. "It's a better version than ours!" Why didn't you hop onstage and sing along, Mo? "I don't think there's any need for me to do that; they're not my proteges. I haven't put them together with paste and paper, you know." SRC vocalist Tobey Torres creamed in her leather pants when she saw her hero walk through the door. "I had all the lyrics of his songs written on the wall in permanent ink," she admits. "I was a depressed child."
The same picture (caption: "Tobey Torres touches her hero, Morrissey") that appeared on the Reprise site 3 months is included with the small article.
---
In recent conversation Morrissey mentioned that he liked the SRC version at first but wasn't so sure about it now. As a side note - apparently bands keep requesting permission to cover "How Soon Is Now?" And apparently Morrissey has stopped giving permission. He wondered why they don't choose a different song, perhaps "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before"?

Morrissey was probably just trying to be nice when he said at first this SRC version was better than the original. Thank god he later said he wasn't so sure about it now!!

You think if these bands/singers were such Smiths fans, they would pick some other song to cover, rather than the one everyone seems to pick. But like I've said before, they shouldn't cover any of Moz's songs anyhow, it will never be as good.

          1. I would be frightened if Morrissey actually turned up for anything because it involved 3rd Eye Blind and started living the Semi-kind of charmed life.

          2. The girl from SRC looks like a faux-goth chick. The kind you would find on the set of Full House if they wanted to show some awful people who could potentially imperil the Olson Twins.
