Rockin' remembrances From Eleventh Dream Day to Clint Black, here are the top concerts we remember from 2000
Mark Guarino Daily Herald Music Critic

3. Morrissey at the Chicago Theatre, Feb. 11

He had no album out, no record label muscle backing him up, but former Smiths diva Morrissey held court like he was king of the world yet again.

Cramming intense theater into a 75-minute show, Morrissey offered himself up as the main course, flailing himself about and peppering former Smiths manifestos like "Meat is Murder" with brilliantly wounded drama. All his look-alikes in the crowd ate it up and Morrissey, in top croon, looked happy people still cared.

...and that was the beauty of it all. there was no new album to promote and plaster into the minds of fans who just wanted to hear the stuff that made them love his music, no record label out to get a nasty share to add to their disgustingly obese revenues (although, you can't rule out increased sales from new fans - my cousin dug morrissey and alain after seeing them and rushed to get some moz albums the next day)...

'oye esteban' was for the fans and tailored to the faithful - something other acts tend to shy away from while in their prime.

a million thanks to morrissey & co. for the 'oye esteban' tour!

      looking back....here mine;

      Reading Morrissey's comments ...about record
      deals ... and stuff...I'm afraid it's over.

He does not want to join a little record company
or take risks...[is investing his own money,
      in a new record deal...]

I know he's a man...who rather stops on the height
off his carreer with 10 million $ on his account,
over getting a 2nd hand singer, who trying
to get a glorious come-back numerous times.

I hope we get another record...at least another
Tour...but my hope lessens ... month by month,...
after his succesfull 'Oye Esteban'tour stopped.
There were major record companies interested
in signing him...while he was touring...and now?

      Morrissey...what's next?

        moz likes being a weinershnitzel.

i keep getting the idea that he likes being the sacrificial lamb in the face of....well, god knows what cruscade is on his list today, but he's not the only one having to start over. and at least he has something to start over with. imagine bands with no measurable fame or recording history being dropped by their label. they really are damaged goods.

sitting in a corner and pouting is not going to help anyone. he likes to imagine that he's effective by denying everyone of his presence or effort, but I guarantee you that it doesn't work. people become toughened to it. they start to think that he doesn't really care and they lose interest. webslaves and all....

but to be really cheesey, the only prison is hope. when people lose hope that he is reciprocating their efforts and devotion, or is willing to get up off of it and change something to a more positive note, they become free to ruin their lives their own way regardless if he pops up for a record signing or not.

The same day this story appeared, the Chicago Tribune ran an article by rock "critic" Greg Kot calling the show the biggest disappointment of the year. Something about a lacluster Moz "going through the motions". Too bad the Trib has about 150 times the readership of the Daily Herald.

I live in St. Louis, Mo but was fortunate enough to go to the Chicago theater show on the 11th of Feb.. I had 2 first-row balcony seats, which had cost over $100, but right before the concert we gave them to a scalper plus $170 for 3rd-row floor. HE IS RIGHT-THIS CONCERT IS THE BEST I HAVE EVER SEEN MOZ PERFORM. He was amazing! I think it had a lot to do with it being a sell-out. Moz appreciates loyalty. That was the best night of my dreadful life. Later, I was so mad that I forgot my camera at the motel. I saw him 4 days later on Valentines night in Akron Ohio--3rd-row--did get a great picture before security warned me not to take another. I enjoyed that concert too. He came out singing Oiuji Board, but he wasn't into it as much as in Chicago--I'll be there again when he returns.
