"How Soon is Now" background music on "Why5"
Derby Ram writes: By chance I happened to see part of a programme called Why5 on BBC1 ( UK ) last nite - the programme seemed to be some sort of science series aimed at youngsters. During the end credits the featured music was "How Soon is Now" - thought this might be of interest. The Beeb seem to be using quite a bit of "alternative" music in their progs these days, as opposed to the mainstream tosh they generally favour.

Shock! Horror! JK Rowling is a Smiths fan! (Score:1)
This evening, JK Rowling (the creator of the phenomenonly successful Harry Potter books)was interviewed by Sue Lawley on Desert Island Discs (Radio 4, Boxing Day 8:30pm), and shock, horror revealed that she is a big fan of The Smiths! Sue played 'Big Mouth Strikes Again' as requested, which I haven't heard on radion in years! Before that, almost intuitively I was kind of expecting some Smiths reference. The lyrics of 'This Night Has Opened My Eyes', I could see having particular relevance to JK's impoverished life as a single parent, before she signed the highly lucrative contract with an American publisher. She credited the 'wittiness of the lyrics' and the 'guitar' work! Considering that her other choices of music comprised: Mozart, Jimmi Hendrix, Tchaikovsky and The Beatles, I think Our Steven & Co should be rightly flattered to be name checked by a world renowned author who obviously has taste when it comes to music. She also mentioned that when she was a child, she wore thick National Health spectacles, her face was feckle ridden, and she was a constant reader. Where have we heard that before? A girl of Steven's own heart surely! Does anyone know if he is a Harry Potter fan?
