'These Charming Men' - Smiths tribute band in London (Jan. 19, 2001)

Just noticed that a small advertisement has been placed in the Christmas NME for a Smiths Tribute band, 'These Charming Men' on 19 January 2001 at the Venue, New Cross, South East London. Can't vouch for how good they are, (I have not heard of them personally) but I saw a good tribute band 'The Still Ills' about 2 years ago there and whatever people think about these 'imposters', they mean well, and it is good to hear the songs faithfully reproduced again. Close your eyes and it could be 1986 Brixton all over again... well, nearly!

    do they have a singer yet? what's the deal?

    hmm, perhaps it's a 'karaoke' performance where some lucky kid in the audience can step up to the microphone and hack away at a smiths or morrissey tune. my would that be fun!

      Is there any chance that the band might be http://www.thesecharmingmen.com/, an Irish tribute band which sound and look quite good!

      OK, this is not on their gig list, but its not on the other band's gig list either.

            It is the London based band, they do have their original singer back in the line up now. In fact, the whole band is the original line up. They had a break of around a year due to no singer, and the website was supposed to have been updated to include the upcoming gig. Blame the bass player, Dan for that!
