There is a Swedish singer called Håkan Hellström who right now has huge success with his debut album that came out this summer. In an article in Sweden's biggest evening newspaper he talks about his apparent thefts of Morrissey´s lyrics. He´s singing in Swedish but you can´t help but notice the relation to Morrissey´s lyrics. The article gives a few examples but I can hear a few others in other songs too. This is an article I guess only Swedish fans (maybe Scandinavian) have an interest in, but maybe more Swedish kids will gain an interest in Moz since the reviews he (Hellström) has been getting has been great everywhere.

Oh yes, I stumbled on this piece of news a while ago on Aftonbladet, and I did also see some bits of his show on swedish television, the name of the programme I don't know, I was channel surfing at the time. But it got my attention for a while. At the time I tought, well, this is spomewhat familiar, and moved on...until the Aftonbladet. Well, in there he admits stealing from Morrissey and that is plain obvious. But why does he say that he hasn't listened to Moz for the last two years...in denial, sort of.

Great, now here in Scandanavia we have to deal with a Morrissey fake!
What ever happened to originality?! (for those of you who like to comment about Morrissey not being original-i.e. the elvis, james dean thing-stuff it! Moz didn't pose with cigarettes dangling out of his mouth, nor wear those horific glitzy body suits)
You would think that in Sweden, where they take care of their musicians, one wouldn't have to steal another's lyrics. If you can't write your own, hire someone to do it dammit! It looks much better.

I don't see the problem with Håkan Hellström borrowing from Morrissey... M. having great impact on his fans isn't anything new, is it? In Sweden it isn't anyway - the brothers Birro (swedish authors/poets/or whatever) don't do anything to hide their fanatism in media. The problem with H. is that he hasn't mentioned anything about it on the record - as if it would pass un-noticed. Anyway Håkan Hellström's music won't do any harm, and I won't complain since I don't think there can be enough great music...

This news about Håkan Hellström is interesting to me because I was at the Roskilde Festival this summer in Denmark and saw him perform. I loved his music and performance (in a little blue wool sailor suit) though I couldn't understand a word of it because. . . he reminded me so much of Morrissey! The crowd LOVED it. Genius!
His album is hard to get (special order) but worth it. Even better is seeing him live. It's like Morrissey's early 90s rockabilly/anthem phase. Yay!
