Leo García's new song "Morrissey" - an Argentinean homage

charles byron writes:

Leo García - he opened the Moz concert last March - is some kind of indie-icon in the Argentinean music scene who during the last couple of months has gained a lot of disciples with his new song "Morrissey" (unreleased as far as I know).

The song tells the story of a guy who has a "very special relationship" with a friend who shares his love for Morrissey. While the girlfriend of the latest doesn't even seem to have a clue who Moz is, they both locked themselves in a car in order to listen to his records.

The refrain of the song goes something like this:

"Does your girlfriend know that we listen to Morrissey?
She listens to Björk, Bowie and Beck
She repeats all day the word "DJ"
And she even listens to the record I gave to you
But she doesn't know a thing about Morrissey...
Morrissey! Morrissey! Morrissey!"

Not to be rude, but I really hope the music to this song is decent...because the lyrics posted are somewhat failing. It would be interesting to hear!

the acoustic version of the song sounds somewhat reminiscent of Nick Drake.
and about the lyrics and those lines about “Björk, Bowie and Beck”, it’s pretty obvious that he’s making fun of all those little girls who think they’re “indie” because they listen to all those eMpTyV products but fail to know who the man is.
again, maybe in Spanish and knowing the argentine’s music scene the lyrics have a real different (and ironic) meaning.

I´m from Argentina and was able to listen to Leo´s performance many times and also listen to the song Morrissey lots of times...Look...he is a great performer, plays the guitar terrible good and has a lovely voice and his other songs are great. You really should speak after listening to his work which is really cool, he isn´t famous around but is getting to be more notorious but he got the attention before recording the son Morrissey...and also he is a big Moz fan too...

you shoul listen to his work...

I'm from Argentina and I'm astonished about the fucking comments from Charles Byron (stupid nickname, isn't?). Leo García is a dysfunctional kind of human being. He and Schanton are a pair of non-entities in itself. The song called Morrissey is a pile of shite. The lyrics are as laughable as ridicule. García represents the idiocy of the middle classes in contries such as mine. I'm very sorry if one of you had the horrible experience of listening to this tune. Enough said.
