I met him. I finally met him.

Prior to the Beautiful South taking the stage at the (Hollywood) House of Blues Sat. night, talk was in the air that Morrissey was in attendance. My wife, Suzanne, asked a viking-looking, albeit, very nice bouncer if Moz was in fact in the House. He said, "yes," but couldn't divulge his location. Suddenly we looked up and spotted Morrissey upstairs; seated center stage.

After the South launched into a high-spirited "From Under the Covers," we naturally popped up to the balcony, and watched the remainder of the show 10 short yards away from Morrissey, Alain White and a few others.

Surrounded by five security guards--looking like causually dressed Secret Service agents--Moz sat quietly at a table sipping Coronas, nodding to the tempo and graciously applauding after every song.

Following the encore of an absolutely brilliant show, Moz and Co. got up to leave. As his entourage passed, I asked Morrissey if I could shake his hand and told him he was awesome. Whilst firmly gripping my hand, he sheepishly said, "thank you." He's a good bloke, that one! God bless him.

Last night was the last gig of the Beautiful South's North American tour. P.D. Heaton and the band were spot on, as always! Waiting in the crisp night air, for the valet to bring 'round the car, Moz hurriedly walked by and nodded to us. End it on a good note, that's what I'm talkin' about.

Cheers mates!

While I could not get any further bits on the many conversations Morrissey had with Beautiful South fans at the NYC show, I did learn that he also showed up to their LA HOB show this past weekend, and was chatting it up with the band backstage.

Fashion notes: he was (reportedly) sporting a PVC coat.

The Beautiful South have always been an above average band. I'll admit there are a number of songs that I can do without but the majority of them have some intelligence to them (the overall song structure, not just the lyrics). I applaud Moz for going to the show as it was more than likely because he wanted to attend a show. People don't always have to have some secret motive behind what they do. I'd have loved to attend the show and not just to be able to say I saw Moz there. Again, I fear I waste my time....

Morrissey and PD Heaton are great! They're two of my favourite artists and in their different ways they're quite same... Eccentric, romantic, depressed, emotional, critical, anti-racist (yes, that's right), and - above all - very, very funny and witty! The Smiths and Housemartins were two great bands, which was rare in the eighties. And Moz and The South are also two of my favourite 90's acts (next to R.E.M., Blur, Cardigans, Travis, Suzanne Vega,...) - . Anyway : Moz hangs out with TBS (that's fantastic - hope they can straighten out their squarrels of the past), but what can you say about J. Marr and his friendship with the horrible Oasis brothers?

Ah, I have always been a Beautiful South

of them, hoping that he thinks they're
Brilliant-which they ARE, and so now I am

Huh? Back up one second. (Score:1)
I thought that there was long standing animosity between Moz and TBS dating back to the point when PD was a Housemartin? Didn't Moz accuse them of stealing a riff or a whole song at some point?

    What about Maudlin Street
"I never stole a Happy Hour around here."

Isn’t that a generally accepted reference to their dispute? When did reconciliation take place? I’m so confused!

Going to a concert is just going to a concert. And I don't care what music Morrissey likes (maybe he just wants to talk about Hull backstage) - it doesn't affect my opinion of his music one bit. I like lots of other bands/singers, and I don't care what they do with their spare time, and you shouldn't be that bothered what Morrissey gets up to. It's such a sad (and a very English) attitude to belittle someone for not constantly trying to be cool, and not staying "in touch" (as if that matters in any way whatsoever).
