Last night 15/10/00 on "Late Night with Jools Holland", there was a new band that had the backing track to "Girlfriend in a Coma." He put his own words to it and credited the Smiths but the band unfortunately have a long way to go and are not that good!

Sorry I can't even remember their name!

    The 'new band' was actually Badly Drawn Boy - winner of this year's Mercury Music prize! I think he said that the music of the song was a hybrid of 'Girlfriend in a Coma' and Madonna's 'Papa Don't Preach'.
