Placebo's Brian Molko's favorite: The Smiths

Manu writes:

In a French radio interview of Placebo broadcast on France Inter on the 5th of September, Bernard Lenoir asked Brian Molko if The Cure were still an influence for him. He answered that when he lived in Luxembourg, he was listening very often to The Smiths, not much for the Cure. He prefers the poppiest moments of The Cure, but The Smiths were his favourites.

    a question for all... (Score:0)
Is any one SICK TO DEATH of reading which bands are / were influenced by morrissey or the smiths? Honestly, 4 out of 6 news updates today are bands saying how much they liked the group. Fan-fu.cking-tastic. Harvey Danger, Placebo, Go-betweens, spearmint, Noel Gallagher, the list goes on. I know news from Moz is pretty slow right now, but how about we quit getting posts about this stuff!

Also does anyone care if morrissey is name dropped in the back of a magazine? Or on a game show? How about keeping the Morrissey news to Morrissey himself.

    thanks. i feel better now

Maybe you should start your own morrissey site filled daily with exciting "fantasy" news that you can make up yourself.

i totally agree with the anonymous who said that they're sick of the constant mails about bands who are influenced by moz and the smiths. right on, mate! it IS a bit shitty, you can't pretend it's the most interesting kind of news. and it IS the only kind of thing that's posted these days! there's no need to have a go at him, he's not saying the whole site is crap, just generally bemoaning the lack of proper moz news these days, which i'm sure we all agree with. just cause he has standards! the fact is there is a huge lack of moz news these days, and unfortunately anything vaguely related to the great man is the closest any of us can get. which gets a bit tedious after a while, seeing as though anyone these days can namecheck the band, even if they actually sound nothing like them, (like oasis.....noel may have loved them, but the only things they have in common are manchester and guitars....) ....therefore anything gets into print! however....if none of this band namechecking stuff came on the site there would never be any more news. so....until moz rears his ugly head again we're stuck! but with placebo i do have to say, they did do a rather nice cover of bigmouth, and
brian does talk about them rather a lot anyway. but how come the deftones are never on this site? every single bloody interview they do, chino spouts off about how much he loves morrissey and the smiths...he wants to duet with him!
