A few random rumors

Since it's been so slow lately, I thought I'd share some of the latest rumors and strange emails I've received lately - none have been verified whatsoever and are for entertainment purposes only...

Moz and Gene
I hear rumors of Gene coming back to America to open some shows for Morrissey. Does anyone have any information on this?

Sorry no tour
I think you all may be dreaming about a tour, as I have it on very good authority, Spencer and Alain Whyte were seen together on Kensington high street on Monday night and Alain seems very keen to work with Spennie and not with Morrie!!! The band are bored with the eccentric Mr Steven and as it seems most of his tour personnel are very busy with other projects. Could this be the winter of his discontent!!!

Barry Manilow?
I heard that Morrissey will be touring with Barry Manilow in the future. Is this true? The reason, I heard was "because we both write the songs that make the young boys cry."

My ass, that Alain would rather work with Corbin then Morrissey. That is like saying, " I don't want the million dollars, I'll just take $5."

I had heard too back in like late April about possible shows in Nov. None with Gene though(Thank God!). And when I first heard these rumors, The House Of Blues was mentioned. As far as Alain leaving Moz to work with Speni, I highly doubt it. Money changes everything.

Alain did say in an interview that he'd be willing to work with Spence in the future, but it seems very dubious that Mr. Whyte doesn't want to work with Moz. I ran into Alain in a clothing store (American Rags) during the last tour & chatted with him for about 10 minutes. He was really pleased with the tour: very enthusiastic over Spike's playing (take that, Spike-critics), and jazzed by Moz's sets -- saying they were "like a B-sides tour" & calling them "amazing." His job satisfaction seemed pretty high to me.

          false (Score:0)
That rumor is false. I spoke breifly by telephone to Spencer last week and can assure you that he is in New York. There are no plans for Spencer and Alain to work together at this time. Spencer's current project is his band Elva Snow. Elva Snow will be putting out an EP either in late August or early September. He's doing well in New York and will be performing a show with his band at Columbia University on August 31. Spencer also did a rather lenghty interview with the girls @ MorrisseyTour which will be posted sometime in September.

It is true, however, that Alain was in London last week.

Until Mozzzer comes out with new material, he can forget about touring again, he's worn out his welcome. Now as for Gene, I wish they WOULD tour! I have a boot of the Troubadour shows last May/June and I am sorry they have not come to Denver (since '94). BTW: Travis will be here Sept 23! I am getting my tix today! YAY! CHEERS!

Look, I have been a Smiths/Moz fans since 1985. I consider the Smiths to be the single most important band in my life. I say this just so nobody here comes out and says I'm just a party crasher of some sort.

Morrissey has made two excellent solo albums (Your Arsenal and Vauxhall & I) and has written some wonderful singles and b-sides. "Viva Hate" had some great moments. But "Maladjusted" was dull by any objective standards. "Southpaw Grammar" was mediocre at best and "Kill Uncle" was dreadfully bad. And all of this touring w/out new material or a new album is just rather pathetic.

Morrissey is arguably the best lyricist and interview in the history of pop/rock history. I will always buy his albums and read his interviews, no matter how mediocre the music, for these reasons alone. But I am disturbed at all the hero worship that occurs at his shows and on this site.

One of the greatest things to take away from the first wave punk movement (a movement highly influential on Morrissey despite his sometimes ambivalent views on this) is that the rock star should be demystified. Morrissey is human and he has made some dreadful career choices since embarking on his solo career. Maybe if people would remember this then they would think twice before degrading themselves by running on stage to touch him.

Appreciate what he has accomplished, buy his albums and t-shirts and interviews (I DO!), but also keep in mind that he is an artist and no artist's legacy is perfect.

What's my point? I have no specific point. It's just an issue which has been bothering me since the Kill Uncle tour (god, what an awful tour!) for which I've never had a forum to express prior to discovering this site.

So throw rotten fruit at me. Tell me never to come back to this site if you want, but just remember--I'm just as big a fan as any of you. I just don't hold an illusions about Morrissey. I don't think that everything he touches is made to Gold.

If you took the time to read this then I thank you for giving me your time.

            Cheers, everyone!
