Mike Joyce / Andy Rourke in Designer Magazine

Excerpt:

Mike Joyce on the royalties court case: "...a lot of people don't think about the second part of that statement. The judges statement wasn't only "Devious, truculent and unreliable" because there's a second part to that, and its the same sentence, the judge said he was "Devious , truculent and unreliable where his own interests were at stake". What exactly he means in that is that he was being devious in what would help him in is evidence, so basically he's embroidering his evidence. If you telling the truth then why do you need to embroider your evidence. Its ridiculous, almost laughable."

What a joke Mike Joyce is the biggest bullshitter in the world. He has stole millions off Moz and knows dam right he mad an agrement of 10%. The juge needs hanging. How does he have the right to say that. He mad that statement after meeting Moz 3 times in a cort room. Its not Moz thats a joke its you, you low life pice of scum. Morrissey and Marr were the Smiths no the little drummer. You dont have tow be a genious to do that!

Yup, I know that this article will inevitably act as a catalyst for people who think that Morrissey is their best friend and are prepared to defend him to the death....the whole thing reminds me of a case I was involved in years ago in which the defendant was an Iranian guy who had become involved in a scam with woman which involved her handing all her money over to him. When she asked for it back, he said - naturally you might think - that it was a gift to him, and that he should be allowed to keep it.

He lost, of course, and came out of the court room howling "The judge. He KILL me in there. I am DEAD MAN now. WE WILL APPEAL. YOU will represent me. The JUDGE he is CORRUPT" etc.

However, I imagine that even he is taking the long view on things now. Whether Moz was wrong or right - and these things always involve a judgement call - now is the time to treat the whole thing as a business loss and move on.

In any case, its not like Joyce and Rourke sued anyone here. Leave Moz to fight his own battles.

    Excellent interview, BTW . . .

I've never heard that Mike and Andy agreed to take 10%. I know that they swear that they were cheated and Johnny's comments on "Young Guns, Go for It" were completely ambiguous. Can you direct me to any evidence that Mike or Andy agreed to this. In any case, I have trouble believing that the whole truth will ever come out because there are (way) too many personal, corporate and legal issues floating around. Alot of people would probably like to sweep a few things under the rug.

This is actually 10% of performance royalties, not songwriting royalties. As there were 4 people in the band, it should have been split four ways. Morrissey thought since he did all the interviews etc, that he (and johnny) should have received a higher share.

Just as well Mike didn't settle for a future share in Morrissey's royalties....maybe not many of them coming without songs, record deal or a manager.
Or coming to Japan to play to your Japanese fans!!!
