Steve Lillywhite has entered into a partnership with Chris Blackwell's entertainment company PalmPictures for his new label, Gobstopper Records.

The first release for the new label will be Elwood's "The Parlance Of Our Time." Lillywhite produced three tracks on the act's debut album. Meanwhile, Lillywhite is working with Dave Matthews Band on its new album, set to be completed in early fall.

Got to meet steve at the record store I work at when he was there promoting the guster/push stars in store performance, and he was a great guy. I asked him about the production of Vauxhall and I, and why Gary Day didn't play bass on the album. His response was that the album turned into more of a "lush" piece of work and was in a different direction musically than what gary wanted to be involved in. Just thought I would share it with you all. But I have to say, Dave Matthews band really sucks......

Agree with above...Dave Matthews? I think Moz should get back with Stephen Street or search for a new producer anyway. Nothing against Steve L., it's just time for a fresh sound.

I knew that back in '99 he was looking to form his own label.....a lot of producers are doing that, I guess because the label does almost nothing now in terms of artist development, so I guess the producers want more credit than what they get for building up a new act.

I am a young producer in my town, and am going to be attending UNC Chapel Hill Next year. Anyway that isn't important. What is important is that anything Steve does seems to be amazing. He always brings out the best in artists and I will support his new record label all the way. He is in my opinion the best producer to live. And that is coming from the view of a producer. Anyway I just wanted to state he is amazing so anything on his label will be amazing. I have not met him, but my dream is to one day have him produce an album for my band. Big dream but it is a nice one. lol. Anyway just thought i would throw in my two cents. Ohh and the Dave Matthews Band kicks ass, and always will kick ass even if Everyday sucks. But the lillywhite sessions (which I named, even though no one gives me credit for it) might be some of the best songs laid down in YEARS.
