Yes I just heard that. Steve Lamacq sounded very disappointed. He has just confirmed that he has cancelled ALL his promos including Andrew Marr and Radcliffe and Maconie and that Morrissey has flown home. The interview was due to be recorded tomorrow ready for broadcast Friday. He says he will try to find out more. Would love to know the truth behind this-bit will we ever know?

Steve Lamacq has just said the official line which he assumes is from Morrissey's management is that he has ' decided not to promote the release of Bona Drag any further'.

I'm sure he'd love to promote his "everything old is new again" releases, but does not want more press about being racist. That doesn't help anyone. It's like being wrongly branded a rapist or child molester. You never get over that! And you certainly don't want to give alot of interviews which were originally supposed to be about the albums.

  • These people on here theorizing that he had last minute realizations of what a "shit career move" it was to re-release Bona Drag...or that he pulled out due to low chart positions for EILS...or that now he'll NEVER get another record deal...or whatever...it's just mind-bogglingly insulting to the man whose music and legacy you all, assumedly, still enjoy and take part in even to the extent of posting in public forum threads.

When he was in his early 20s, he was doing this stuff. HE'S ALWAYS done this stuff...skipped out on video shoots, concerts, in-stores, pulled/switched release dates for albums, fired managers, replaced co-workers, changed musicians like socks...and maybe 10 percent of the time does he explain it publicly.

Whatever his reasons are for doing this, no one knows. But let's respect the fact that he had his reasons and it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that one of them was to slight his fans carelessly.

It's alright to be puzzled by this, it's alright to be disappointed, it's alright to speculate... but when it gets to the point of insulting him and accusing him of things you have NO PROOF OF...I think you better calm down.

One can't help but feel that some Morrissey fans are a subspecies.

  • It’s because he is being inundated with questions about “the Chinese statement”. It is customary for artists to get a list of questions a week or so before an interview. Most likely half of those questions were about his foolish Chinese comment. Everyone knows Morrissey is a public relations nightmare. Sometime it works for him- this time it won’t. I have heard NO talk or buzz about the ‘Bona Drag’ re-issue outside Morrissey-solo. This re-release will be a flop just like the re-release of Viva Hate was. Why not make a video and release a single for one of the lesser known tracks on the album or for the “previously unreleased” material? Poor planning once again!

  • Aren't a lot of Morrissey's so-called fans a bunch of drama queens?

No-one here knows or will ever know for certain whether these cancellations were merely a characteristic whim or the result of something a lot more serious (or somewhere in between). So all this confident "almost certainly due to" speculation is simply that: irrelevant and redundant speculation.

As others of a more level-headed disposition have already commented, this is business as usual for Morrissey. It didn't result in record companies not touching The Smiths with the proverbial shitty stick and it hasn't had the same effect with his solo career either (let's not forget that it's entirely possible that Moz keeps the record companies at arm's length if he is not offered the deal or the terms that he desires). From Billie Holiday to Elton John to Amy Winehouse, artists are famously temperamental and difficult to manage. This is no biggie. Nobody's career is over. Get a sense of perspective please: this is four cancelled media appearances, that's all.

And so what? It's not life or death.
