  • ...is a very personal thing, because he's not very famous here. I don't like to talk about it, it's too private.

  • Having visited Berlin for the first time last week - a big historically-rich well-run city - a 'klien' summary of the comments would be appreciated?

At your service...here is what Jan Böhmermann said:

He first heard a Morrissey song (Heaven Knows I´m Miserable Now) one evening when he was 13 from a car radio. He later on translated the lyrics by help of a Langenscheidt dictionnary (as in those days there was no internet yet) & was astonished to realize that it was possible to sing in a great way & to tell the truth at the same time. Everything he ever heard of Morrissey or The Smiths later on or what he found out in his research made it even better. He´s honestly from the heart an admirer of Steven Patrick Morrissey.
He went to three concerts (Köln, Berlin, Bremen) & Morrissey is one of the few people who can put two & a half thousand mainly heterosexual grown-ups into ecstasy. 45 year old doormen types will climb the stage crying meanwhile, to make their lives´ dream come true: to touch or even kiss Morrissey.
A lot of fans relate to Morrissey so closely, that it borders on something sexual. This is not the case with J.B., though he will admit that there might have occured some sexual arousedness during one or the other of Morrissey´s ballads, which however had more to do with the surrounding circumstances than with the artist.
He claims to have every single recording Morrissey or The Smiths have ever made, live & studio recordings.
Morrissey is an excentric, with a sense of humour who also has a black soul & deals with the subjet of being an outsider & not being loved, which is why he speaks to so many freaks.
J.B. listens to a changing range of Morrissey songs every day & has done so for many years, it´s something nearly manic. But the songs put him in a good mood, either because he realizes Morrissey feels even worse than he does himself, or because Morrissey deals with difficult situations by using sarcasm & selfirony, or simply because he (J.B.) enjoys the music.
