  • thats such a shame ! it's a really good collection of songs and deserves a higher audience ! he should have released a single from it (but which one) and put a couple of unreleased tracks on both the single and album to entice all the die hards into buying them ! as he said at leeds " i smell my lowest chart position ever !"

        • As for the US, the date keeps getting pushed back so the "can't waits" are just going to import. I bid on a promo copy on ebay, but somehow was outbid even after being willing to go over $100

    • I agree that it is a good collection of tracks, in fact it could be argued to be superior to some previous albums he has released, certainly 'Kill Uncle' and possibly 'Southpaw' and 'Malajusted'.
It was also the perfect opportunity to release ' The never played symphonies' as a single as it is a beautiful track worthy of much greater exposure than it had as a 'b' side to 'irish blood'.
Strange to why he didn't include ' The Public Image' as it was a great track in the vein of 'Maudlin Street' and certainly should have been on 'Quarry' along with 'Symphonies','Friday Mourning' and 'My life is an endless succession' or 'Teenage dad'. All these would have improved that album from very good to 'Vauxhall' type respect.
Still Moz is his own man and makes his own decisions...but i'm sure he realises 'Symphonies' not making the 'Quarry' cut was a huge mistake!!

  • When the Best of album was released, it would have been sensible to include a 2nd disc featuring b-sides and unreleased songs. That way it would have attracted both the diehard fans and the part-timers.

This album was never going to be a seller though.

  • no wonder, i am a ardent moz fan and did not buy it. why ? because i bought all songs from the album on singles and other releases why not put something new to make it more attractive ? Plus just can not stand this awful cover foto, what happened to his taste ? huge disappontment this album

  • I'm sure no-one expected it to do any better- I quite like having all the B sides in one place but maybe I'm just lazy. There are plenty of quality bands/ artists out there that don't chart highly - when you have people like Leona Lewis at No 1 then it's hardly a measure of quality

  • Some fans are blaming the poor sales on the awful sleeve. Others are pointing out that their favourite b-side missed the cut. But, hey! Don't they realise that this is all part of a cunning plan? I'm sure we will get a Swords Platinum Edition next year with the complete set of b-sides on it. And as for the sleeve, I'm sure we will get a new version of Swords in 10 years time, with a new cover, a rejigged track listing, plus sleevenotes from El Moz about how the album deserved a much better reception than it got. This man won't rest until we have bought every song he's ever released 10 times over.

  • Here's a balanced preview of the new b-sides album that provides some background to the songs and to everything else Morrissey has been doing recently as well -

"LOS ANGELES(Top40 Charts/ Universal Music Enterprises) - 2009 has been quite a year for Morrissey. He's toured relentlessly, performing to sold-out audiences around the world. His 9th studio album, Years Of Refusal, saw Morrissey tie his highest US chart debut on the Billboard 200, and he's overseen upgraded and remastered versions of his '90s works Southpaw Grammar and Maladjusted. Crowning what is undoubtedly his most productive year since his solo career began in 1988, SWORDS compiles 18 select songs released as b-sides of his 13 hit singles from his last four albums. As an artist who has always ensured his b-sides are of as outstanding quality as his singles and album tracks, SWORDS features some of Morrissey's finest material..."
