His friend Jonathan Ross says...

...Close friend Jonathan Ross has been in touch with the Smiths legend's PA who has confirmed that Morrissey “seems OK” and is “resting”.

  • All will be ok after a little bit, although who is not tired of getting Sir Moz's news from Mr.Ross...who is not newsworthy or funny.
I wish Moz much better health, this is always very odd.The second show of a new tour,i have to believe he is really tired,i mean,if he was sick,sick..he and his doctor's would have to know. And when was the last show...6 weeks ago or so,so unless he swam the atlantic,he should be fit and rested, more or less.
I was a critic of much of his setlist's from earlier in the year, but the the first show of this tour /even though many were still not happy/ i thought was very excellent! Many new tunes and a lot of potential for the rest of the tour.
For some reason,he will have to take some time off now but perhaps he will come back sparkling!
I wish him the best, get better real soon and come back more inspired than ever.I know most of us would love a great comeback story!

  • I am glad to hear Morrissey is out of hospital and feeling well. I found out at BBC News 24. Whatever it was I hope it is not happening again. He should go back on stage when totally ready, without preasure from fans or press. I hope I can see him at the Alexandra Palace gig, if not I will understand.
I agree with what someone else said about Morrissey-Solo getting rid of anonymous messages. I don't really understand why people don't want to use their name. The only reason is, because they are cowards and they find easier to be nasty hidding in the dark. Pathetic people!

  • Good to hear that Morrissey has been discharged and is improving. However, seeing as Bournemouth has been cancelled, I really can't believe that the RAH show will go ahead. Moz clearly needs a complete rest, not just a couple of days...

The promoters surely have to come out with a clear announcement about the dates on Monday, otherwise, for the second time in a year, there will be dissapointed fans outside the RAH, many of whom will have travelled at great expense.

No-one wants to see him forced off stage due to illness again in 2009, let alone anything worse which could happen if he isn't fit to perform.

  • What are the chances that the RAH show will be cancelled and tickets will be valid for the ally pally show? Might make sense in a way as it'd give him longer to recover and he could then restart the tour in Leeds on Thursday. Just a thought.

SO HAPPY that he is okay. For those of you who think some of us are overly invested-- There is more to life than what any of our tiny little minds can even begin to comprehend. I am not going to defend what I feel any longer.

  • Glad to hear Morrissey is ok and I'd rather he cancels the gig I'm due to see, than play when he's not 100%.

However, now it's all died down I feel like getting something off my chest; I was taken aback by how much naysaying and general cynicism was thrown around these pages at news which could so easily have been tragic.

Obviously the majority of people were wellwishers, whose thoughts were with someone who means a great deal to them. However, for some reason, there is still a contingent of Morrissey "fans", who think that others shouldn't be allowed to adore him in the same way fans of e.g. Elvis, Sinatra, Michael Jackson, or The Beatles adore their idols. Why not? Most people enjoy having that unconditional adoration for an extraordinary public figure. He's an idol, an icon, some would say a great poet who's enriched many people's lives. Of course the persona of 'Morrissey' is a figment of his own fans imaginations, of course as a human being he's not infallible. However, just because many people from all walks of life are upset by the news that someone they admire is ill, why should they be knocked for their feelings?

It seems there are those who follow Morrissey because they enjoy berating him, for not quite measuring up to his Smiths' days, for getting old, for still enjoying making music for his fans and himself and for still having an opinion. But why should those people feel the need to come and post inflamatory remarks on a fan site? Obviously you know who you are and I hope you feel some twinge of embarassment that Moz knows it too and wrote 'All You Need Is Me' about you.

Obviously you think us (his more ardent fans) sad for indulging in the kind of idolatory that's been around since time immemorial (you think Morrissey fans are mad, just look how educated society treated poets like Byron). However, all you who rushed onto the internet last night to accuse Morrissey of faking his illness, or to rubbish people's feelings, or just to try and get one up on someone else's post, by being condescending and cocky, well you're the saddest one's of all. You actively sought out a fansite to show how much you disliked the artist to which it's dedicated (and isn't it telling that you nearly all stayed Anonymous.)

My aren't you the bigger people!

I realise this rant will fall on deaf ears ... but I feel a lot better for it.

    Get well soon Morrissey!

  • I've been on this site for a long time. I have been quite disturbed by the awful awful comments on here from so-called fans. I was deeply saddened to hear Morrissey collapsed and was booed for Christ’s sake!
Today my hero was on the front page of CNN:
    http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Music/10/25/morrissey.collapse/index.html [cnn.com]
I spent the better part of the day thinking of mortality and a life without Morrissey. I began to think again about why Morrissey's poetry means so much to us. I began to think of him as a human being. Truly, after seeing some of these comments...we don't deserve him.

  • that Moz is on the mend!

Although he's cancelled many gigs over the years due to sickness, when I first heard the news about him collapsing after one song I felt like a hero -- my musical hero of all time -- had fallen.

I'm sure efforts will be made to reschedule gigs and Moz will be in rude health again soon.

As i have said before i think Moz tour to much, but thats what he enjoys he loves the closeness with the fans and in my opinion he shouldn't play these all seater arena's.

As for people who complain about Morrissey missing gigs stop buying tickets, The way Moz tours there is always a chance could happen.

  • maybe Morrissey should start thinking about scaling back his touring (more than juste crossing Canada off the list- ha). he's never been much for makin it through a tour unscathed and now that he's gettin up there maybe he should start takin it a little easier. not only is it a potential risk to his health, but his frequent absences are costing people a lot of money and causing a lot of disappointment.

    get well soon, Moz.
