Kid Cudi is cool, even though I only know Day N Night. And the Crookers remix is amazing.

    Good tune (Score:2, Insightful)
The bridge towards the chorus and the actual chorus itself could've made a great Morrissey tune, too. Good work, Alain.

It's great that Alain has been expanding his musical horizons ever since he left the live band.

I doubt very much that he would have had so many collaborations with various artists had he stayed in the Morrissey camp.

Nonetheless, we're very lucky to have Alain still contributing tunes for Morrissey. I simply wouldn't have high hopes for an album's worth of material from Boz and Jesse...

            Alain can't win (Score:3, Insightful)
People used to complain vociferously that he was a "one-trick pony" and couldn't provide the goods for Morrissey, that "fresh blood" was needed. In the last year alone, he has worked with will.i.am, Anya Marina, and Kid Cudi, not to mention the diverse batch of soundtrack tunes he has posted to his myspace, some of which Morrissey would have been lucky to utilize. Now he is damned for branching out? Whether you like the artists he collaborates with or not, Alain is not stuck in a rut. I have very little interest in hip-hop or rap, but I think the Kid Cudi song is top-notch, a good blend of styles.

The old "he's doing it for money" argument is overly simplistic. He's not on a retainer with Morrissey and no longer tours. Shame on him for trying to make a living because it's not "indie" or "alternative?" Ridiculous. I wonder how many anonymous, computer-bound souls who throw that old saw out there are leading pampered lives on somebody else's dime. Unless you are rich or live off a trust fund, EVERYBODY does something for the money. Get over yourselves.

Meanwhile, the "fresh blood" Morrissey has gotten writes songs all in one, clodhopping mode. If Alain has been guilty of writing to Morrissey's taste in the past (whether or not it coincided with his), then Jesse Tobias outright panders to it with execrable results. But he's obviously doing it for "the art" (however safe, tired, and New York Dolls-influenced) and not the paycheck. To that double-standard, I insert a big, fucking roll of the eyes here.

            Cheers,
            Jamie
