  • ...buy the Singles Box or hope that the CD reissues contain bonus tracks...? Anyone in the know?

  • Hmmmm, we'll see, but for now I have all the originals.

    It's getting quite stupid though.

  • between mp3 and FLAC? I don't mean to be super-nerdy about this but mp3s sound terrible and people who can hear the difference ought to have a choice.

And I didn't/wouldn't say that it's impossible to enjoy music that technically-speaking sounds kind of crappy -- what I said was that people who are buying a new release ought to have a choice.

I want to share something interesting I've found.

During the leakage of "Years of Refusal," I burned the songs onto a CD and played it until I bought the official CD. There was a noticeable difference between the Mp3s and the official version -- bass was much more pronounced on the official CD, and sounded a lot cleaner. The burned CD sounded somewhat grainy for some reason.

Unfortunately, I don't know if the Refusal leakage were 192 or not. Maybe someone who remembers can clear it up.

The bottom line is that while it may haven't stopped my "enjoyment of the music," I've preferred the official CD since I've heard it. Mind you, I have a "budget" system -- nothing too spectacular (Cambridge Audio 640 CD Player).

Anyway, the original poster simply wanted a choice between the two digital formats. There was no need for you to jump on him for it, sweetheart.

  • Just wondering if Morrissey's in on this; he must be? But I don't understand why releases are still pouring out, 'cause surely it means that every Smiths related item lines Gross and Rourke's pockets.

None of them, especially Morrissey, aren't that desperate are they? Well, Apart from he other two desperado's that is.

  • Let the trolls scream "Reissue, Repackage" but a reissue of the Smiths' catalog on vinyl is loooong overdue! I bought all my Smiths CDs in the 80's and they are totally trashed. I put off buying new ones because I knew they'd be reissued with better sound eventually. Got into vinyl last year, but held off on buying people's old scratched LP's on eBay. 180 gram vinyl with remastered sound, woo-hoo! How can I be the only person here who is excited about that?!? Now if they'd just do the same with New Order and Moz's solo stuff!

    • We haven't seen anything decent in years and now all of a sudden we get first the Box vinyl edition, than the Box cd edition and now the studio albums reissued , remastered , repackaged .....and , according to some, the vinyl Box part 2 is on its way for Christmas maybe...It is always the : too much or nothing, no middle way.

    Fingers crossed.

  • I bought all The Smiths albums on vinyl when they came out...but just the other week my girlfriend was in a north London charity shop when she phoned me up to say she'd found all the Smith's albums and many 12" singles for £20(the lot!) and should she buy them for me...

  • Anyone else disgusted that the singles box is now available on CD, 6 months or so after wasting their money on Vinyl? It is the 21st Century after all! I also see a potential disturbing trend with the lack of original b-sides and vile remixes like that 'When Last I Spoke To Carol' one rearing its ugly head. Seems no one's told these record companies that there's a recession on, the bastards just carry on riding honest people who actually pay for their music. At least it hasn't reached U2 levels of extortion YET!!!

  • I recall Morrissey telling us ages back not to buy Smith's recordings because all the royalties were going to Joyce as penalty for him not settling up the court ruling.

Has all the court business been finally been put to rest? Will Morrissey get his due out of these sales?
