now a cd single version of the smiths 7" boxset - link posted by pubrockcoma:
The Smiths: Singles Box: Limited - recordstore.co.uk

CD version of the highly popular “Singles Box”

A clamshell card box containing the first ten UK-issued Smiths singles in original picture sleeves, featuring the original 12" single tracklistings, apart from the first single 'Hand In Glove', which appears in it's mega-rare "negative" sleeve. Two singles are exclusive to this box set; The rare Francois Kevorkian-mixed "New York" 12" version of "This Charming Man" which had a limited issue in December 1983 and the German import-only 12" version of "Barbarism Begins At Home" from 1985. The box is completed with a poster featuring the single artworks.

All singles utilise newly re-mastered audio by Frank Arkwright overseen by Johnny Marr, and feature many non-album tracks, including the hard to find B-side live BBC tracks recorded at the Oxford Apollo in 1985. A must have item, and limited to 10,000 copies only.

  • Seriously? After I just spent about fifty bob on the Smiths 7" singles.

Sometimes I feel like Morrissey only wants me for money that I haven't got.
Oh well...I have no friends, and my collection demandingly calls.

  • And another thing, the Oxford Apollo recordings aren't that hard to find.

Why aren't they being released on Rhino?

  • Great news! (Score:2, Interesting)

This is great news! In hindsight I'm glad I never bought the vinyl box. Hope the CD-singles come in jewel cases and not in cardboard slips.

  • This box will sell out in record time. I will try and get it on the day of release. According to my local HMV the vinyl set is now gone and deleted.

  • I thought I bought not that long ago, and released
    "the Sound of The Smiths"

so this new release is every single packed in original sleeve, and all the singles in a boxset,
otherwise I would not know why I should buy it,
and those Apollo tracks, I bet the 3 who were
on the Dutch 1985 Headmasters Ritual vinyl

but again I would buy it alone for the remastered live songs

  • First the news of the re-release of b-sides on the new Swords album and now this re-release of Smiths CD singles? And all of this so close after the "expanded editions" of Maladjusted and Southpaw Grammar?

    It feels like christmas!

Seriously, maybe Morrissey can put his bank account number on his MySpace page and save us all a lot of hassle.

I'll gladly wire you some money, Morrissey. Now please, for the love of God, focus on writing new songs instead of re-re-re-re-releasing old stuff!

  • ...to me why songs like "Some girls are bigger than others" are considered to be such masterpieces by The Smiths fans? I don't see why at concerts everybody goes crazy with this song...(the same could be said of many other Smiths songs). What is really difficult to understand is why many beautiful Solo-songs are not acclaimed the same way. In my opinion many fans are nostalgic, and this has nothing to do with the REAL quality of songs. Please, start to kill me now...:)
