After taking a failed stab at new wave stardom as a member of the glam-rockabilly act The Polecats, guitarist Boz Boorer joined Alain Whyte as the dual-guitar frontline of Morrissey’s solo lineup in the early ’90s. Together, the two have quietly, humbly produced a fantastic body of work for their boss since then, seamlessly combining just about every form of British rock that’s existed since the ’50s. (Though Whyte recently left the touring band, he continues to contribute to Morrissey’s albums.) Their accomplishments are even more impressive considering Boorer and Whyte will always be compared to some degree to Johnny Marr, the genius guitarist who propelled Morrissey to fame the first time around in The Smiths. While I do like some of Jesse's stuff and like his live talent I don't really think he is under-rated.. I just thought someone was going to mention it.. so why not me? :)

I'm not that expert to understand Johnny Marr's genious, but I think the Smiths' music is often cold and repetitive. My "feeling" is that Alain Whyte and Boz are the best music writers Morrissey has ever had.

putting the 2 in the spotlights

though the first line live solo gig line up was the best, adding Mikey Farrel as he did when it was necessary to create better live on stage,
which was maybe a few years too late, but better
now than never, adding a keyboard/exta bandmemeberimproved the sound

    Those 2 idiots have singlehandedly ruined Morrissey's career, and I am in no doubt that they are destined for obscurity the moment their connection with Morrissey is severed. They should be busking in the streets, not writing songs with the most singular talent of his generation.

    couldn't agree more. alain and boz have an enormous catalog of tunes that have stayed (for the most part) very relevant and very fresh.

    marr's writing and playing sounds like 1984 in a bottle. the sound hasn't aged well...can anyone argue that the earls court or m in manchester version of 'shoplifters' is the definitive version of that song?

    the smiths are quaint in the same fashion as the fond memories of the first person you ever kissed or favorite toys when a child.

    But thankfully, thats how people grow up.

    the smiths are dead. viva morrissey.
