Years of Refusal dropped to #191 on the Top 200 with 2,932 copies sold last week & a release-to-date total of 57,478.

This number includes CD/LP and digital sales. Assuming his tour manager sends in venue sales as well, it also includes all CD and LP sales made on the road.

  • is it the economy?
or that the album only has 4 good songs on it?
    3 of them are new.

  • Jesus...

Wont he sell more live tickets than that on this tour? I've not done the math(s).

    That's fucking low....

So - here we are as fans - what's to blame? There are more than 57,000 Morrissey fans in the USA.

Was a time he sold 14,000 seats in 0.00056 seconds back in '91.

    Something's changed...
  • Assuming an average selling price of $12, that works out to revenue of $684,000 to Lost Highway and UMG. Equal to a crappy one-bedroom apartment in London or New York. Record sales are such a small part of Moz's income-stream. It's like promotion for his concerts, that's all.
And forget about singles sales -- #1 records on the singles charts are hit with sales under 5,000 units.

  • Well, you put out 3 albums in the span of just under 5 years.....as well as toured 4 or 5 times in the same amount of time.....and people just lose interest.

It is my belief as well that Moz's label and tour managers are not promoting nor managing Morrissey to his full extent.

  • I'm curious. Maybe he should license one of his songs for an Ipod commercial.
People only here songs on commercials nowdays it seems.

  • In this market, with music buyers they way they are now, these are GREAT sales!!!

I love you, and I'm proud of you, Moz. The album is incredible - profound, and I'm glad it's sold as well as it has. You deserve it, and even more. :)

I bought my copy (LP) at Hot Topic and I think the whole album is great from start to finish. I can only suspect that he hasn't topped the charts with this album because the younger generation doesn't have a clue who he is. The older generation (X and Y) who loved him from the start seems (to me) to have settled into their own lives and most don't really buy new music anymore or even care to. I was thrilled to have found a vinyl copy of this album. I listen to it, love it, saw him in concert when he came to town and tell all my friends how great this album is. Morrissey has a very strong fan base that will remain there always and buy his music. I think he knows that. He's an underdog after all this time and underdogs usually don't get number one singles and albums all the time, if ever. Just because an album doesn't sell millions of copies doesn't mean it's not good. Checking the iTunes music chart as it stands now, Keith Urban's "Defying Gravity" is number one. Need I say more?
