Smiths, The - The Queen Is Dead [JPN SHM-CD] - Ideal Copy

The high quality SHM-CD (Super High Material CD) format features enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic. Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan discovered through the joint companies' research into LCD display manufacturing, SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc, allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head.

SHM-CD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players.

The Shm-cd of Electric Warrior (T. Rex) absolutely kills it's regular cd counterpart. Same mastering made with different materials -- blew my mind in eyes-closed comparisons. Same for Nilsson's Nilsson Schmilsson, both mastered by Vic Anesini. Other comparisons yielded the same results in varying degrees.
Stranger ... I'm using a Rega Saturn, which normally takes at least 5 seconds to "initialize" a CD, reads the shm discs in an instant ...

        this ain't a Johnny Marr remaster (Score:1)
From comments around the time that The Sound Of The Smiths was released, it seems likely that all The Smiths' albums are going to be released specially and newly remastered under Marr's supervision.

There may be quality gains to be had from SHM-CD, but even a 'regular' CD with a proper new remaster should sound better. That's why I'm avoiding this SHM-CD.
