Morrissey snubs Eli Reed - The Edge - Boston Herald
By Michael Marotta / Hotline

When Morrissey hits Boston’s new House of Blues on March 29, he won’t have local soul man Eli “Paperboy” Reed opening the show for him. Too bad given how close the two came to pairing up for a lengthy 2009 tour.

  • The guy does an absolutely fantastic job at what he does and I like some of the stuff. That said, I'm not sure I (or others) could take a full set of the stuff prior to a Moz gig. It just gets a little repetitive (for lack of a better description). Dude didn't sound like he really wanted to do it "because it was Morrissey". Maybe I'm interpreting this comment wrong, though...

"I really just wanted to play Carnegie Hall."

  • "The snub could be a blessing, as Morrissey’s opening acts have ranged from terrible to unlistenable" Ha! :) Damien Dempsey being the exception IMHO.

  • Eli is fab and so are the Planet Rockers! Planet Rockers are right up there with the Stray Cats and the Quakes!

  • "Morrissey’s camp allegedly struck a deal to have Brookline soulman Reed and his band, the True Loves, open for five weeks of the Mozzer’s seven-week North America tour early next year."

Tour is starting Feb 28. 7 weeks takes it to April 25. Dates listed up to April 15. He has to be in Ireland for the date on the 28th. Is there room for any more USA dates with time to travel?

April 15 date is in New Mexico which is the 2nd of two in a row, which means off/travel day for the 16th.
If he did Arizona on 17/18, travel day for 19/20 he could get in California for April 21, 22, 23, 24.

Maybe three LA dates in that mix with a day off?

  • OK, Morrissey will dispense with the tradition of opening acts immediately. Thanks for offering a suggestion to Morrissey.

  • Don't presume to speak for me, i've enjoyed PJ Harvey, Franz Ferdinand, Sack and Sons and Daughters while seeing Morrissey.
