Maybe the fans in the US who would normally go out and buy a Smiths record feel that this release just doesn't offer anything worth the cost. Even what they call *bonus* tracks are pretty easy to find; they have floated around the internet for years. And sure you can argue that it's a remaster, but really, there are more than a few people who don't give a shit about that and cannot hear any difference anyway.

I'm sure a few copies will be picked up for the holidays (not by me) but I don't see it climbing to #1 anytime soon.

Open any of the tracks in an audio editor and you'll see what I mean. Heck, "The Headmaster Ritual" is as loud and clipped as anything off the new Smashing Pumpkins album!

Amazon sales rank, the TRUE soundscan (Score:0)
okay, let's face it, soundscan is about as accurate as the tv ratings in America- by this I mean, completely made up and simply a marketing tool. In America, red cars are involved in more accidents than any other car color. Oddly f---ing enough, red is the most popular color choice for a car in america.

Alas, the only people that really buy music in America do it on amazon. Anyone who denies this is an idiot, but most importantly simiply WRONG.

Anyways, you can't compare a Cure album of new material to a remastered collection of 25 year old hits, BUT if want to take the Cure/Smith Pepsi challenge, then here goes, you have to compare greatest hits albums. Soooo, the amazon sales rank for the Cure Greatest hit is 1045 (gift wrap is optional). On the Smiths side of the fence, the amazon sales rank for the more expensive 2 disc version of Sound of the Smiths is 300.

            Winner by knockout, the Smiths.

Not too bad for a greatest hits collection that has been re-re-released.

Now, if there ever were a NEW Smiths Album, I am willing to bet that it would make the new Cure album sales look like f----ing sales tax as opposed to sales.
