Cool song. I still think the media is pushing a little too hard on the race issue. I would have voted for him no matter what color he is - green, blue, white or black. It's nice that black people are getting more visibility but the reason behind it all is always selfish interest of the media.

I do think though Obama feels above this and above race. But the way people around him conduct themselves is plain stupid and pretentiously democratic, aka, "multiracial".

That doesn't mean I didn't like this song though and I don't undersstand this singer's enthusiasm.

I think this song is great, catchy, and congrats to Alain White for being a part of it and a part of this.

Of course Obama did not run as "an African-American candidate" during the campaign, but the fact that he is our first
African American president is momentous, historic, bigger than us.
Of course he was the better candidate the whole time. But we can all see now what a huge moment this is. It does matter, and it is valid.

I listened to this offering and was delighted at Alain’s ability and the topic as what better topic can there be then Obama. I thin Moz really needs to use Alain more often and bring him back into the tours. He is so much better than Jesse.

Alain is brilliant. His music is so moving. He should never have been replaced by Jesse who is so awful, his guitar playing is so tinny, like he swallowed his pick and has nothing to play with. Alain, who dresses so much better than Jesse has a better sense of rhythm and his music just is so powerful with his driving thumping bass lines. Jesse who does not dress well kills the songs with his heavy banging of his instrument.

love the song! simple guitar riffs and bassline, with the brilliance of will.i.am. the video also not bad, which i assume it was made very quickly after Obama won.

ps: if you see in the video, there's a footage of elementary school children holding Obama picture with a cheering faces, they are students of elementary school in Indonesia which Obama used to studied there for some years. which i also an Indonesian too :) Obama could give a better change for the world. believe and respect.

     

This does believably sound like an Alain tune, nice and happy with the melody a bit higher up on the home scale (written in the 7th perhaps?).

Big props to Shepherd Fairey. His artwork has been an inspiration and speaks to the power of art conveying a powerful message so simply (Obama = red, white and blue). I noticed Obama wore a red tie on election night, too. This is a signal, imho, that he is going to reach across party lines to help solve our current crises. He is not going to be a President of one, but a representative and leader for many. And he is not going to play into party politics and rhetoric.

The election is over. It's time to get to work. We got problems here. GM (the car company) just laid off more people, Mervyn's (major clothing store, at least in Southern California) is running commercials that they are closing (?!! Ladies, run and get your clothes and shoes!), our soldiers are still in Iraq and Afghanistan (being shocked and electrocuted by faulty wiring in their own living quarters installed by a no-bid, non-union, unqualified contracted company chosen by the current administration). What Obama is going to learn in the coming days is that he has a huge mess to turn around. He's going to need proper, qualified help from all sides.

Also, if Condoleeza Rice would have run for president, I highly doubt she would have gotten 'the black vote' much less the Catholic and Evangelical Christian vote (as Obama did, as National Public Radio in the U.S. examined today) seeing as army recruiting happened the strongest in poorer communities of color in the US and those were the young boys and girls sent to war without proper gear, facilities, protection and strategic oversight. I don't recall any covers of Ebony magazine with Ms. Rice on the cover. I honestly do not know how she is able to sleep at night. mpi, Black people have been paying attention and are aware of this (most are not ignorant to these facts), and so are so many others of white, Latino, Asian and Native American heritage. Voting for him "because he's black" is loaded with a lot of meaning. It's not a blind vote. It's a hope that one's community will not continue to be taken advantage of in the ways that it has been in this country. "Because he's black" means it's expected that he will have a wider point of view, not just a black point of view, but inclusive of the black and "other" point of view. Maybe there were those who didn't vote for him sadly "because he's black," but many more voted for him because of the two candidates, plus their VPs, more American citizens and representatives (from both parties) felt he was simply more qualified to solve the problems we are faced with today. He is well-educated, intelligent, informed and an effective communicator; Biden is the same with a wealth of international and domestic experience to offer as well. Smart leaders choose the right people. In the coming days, we will see the rest of the new team.

What are we going to do with it?

Say what you want about Alain, but the guy has range in his abilities. This is day and night different from Life is a Pigsty or The Never-Played Symphonies. Or any number of his Morrissey songs. It's nice to see him break out of the alternative / neo-rockabilly mold he's so often been cast into. If he ever stops contributing to Morrissey albums and the only remaining songwriters (that is, if there are als no new ones) are Boz and Jesse, just run the flag up.

Not sure why so many on SoLow worship a politician, but whatever turns them on I guess. If they wanna be rally supporters to their new "King", that's pathetic but I can't stop them. Just don't ask me to listen to this crappy, silly song every again, thanks.

I am pleased to see that Alain is lending his amazing talent to people other than just Morrissey. He has a great guitar sound and I hope that we hear a lot more from him in the near future. Not to mention that he is playing on a song that is a part of history.
