Secondly, Weller should have faced the firing squad for that video, "Long Hot Summer." If you have any doubts, search for it on youtube. He's begging to be serviced. Yuck.

Next, I should face the firing squad for purchasing the disc "Modernism: A New Decade."

Furthermore, Weller should be boiled in oil for a group known as "Slam Slam." Google it.

Also, Weller has the worst hair in Brit-pop history.

Lastly, Weller needs to shed a few pounds. He should lay off the chips with cream. Urgh.

Paul Weller is an arsehole who's not contributed any decent material since The Jam, bar a couple of ok tunes. At least Morrissey doesn't need to suck up to all these new crap bands that kick about these days to gain any sort of attention. He was an inspiration in his youth, he is however no longer interesting nor relevant

Weller and the Moz are both very similar in my eyes. Both started with hugely influential groups that ended prematurely and then went down the solo road. As a fan of both I don't think Weller is in a position to criticise Moz's solo offerings! Fair enough ROTT was a load of crap but then again the last couple of Weller offerings have been instantly forgetable too. I think it's too easy for the journalists to ask Weller this question as they know that he doesn't like moz and will give them a nice quote. Maybe Ocean Colour Scene could become Moz's backing band to help to bring peace to this world shattering story.....

I, like most of you am a Morrissey-obsessed fan, but you are all insane putting down Paul Weller.
He like most, did troubling videos in the late 80s/post 80s, but just like Morrissey, he is a treasure to England and a treasure to music.

Saying he's done nothing relevant... How about a number 1 double-album in the UK at 50 years old?
That seems relevant. He's still influencing new music (in his current form, not just as The Jam) like The Rifles, The Enemy, etc.

People that are only stuck on The Jam are the same people that are only stuck on The Smiths...complete morons only obsessed with 80s.
Both of these gentleman have very valid solo careers, and are far more mature and have personalized their music far more than anything done in The Smiths or The Jam.
The only people that write off their solo careers are people that usually don't even pick up the records or are so stuck in their belief of what Weller and Morrissey should be, they can't get around the fact that they're not.

Also, he never put Moz down.
In English culture, there is an irony to being an English cultural icon and living in LA. Its quite the antithesis. And to us that holds a different weight.

So to all you haters...He is doing the same thing in his career Morrissey is doing. Working in the music scene with newer, younger artists either on tour or in the studio, putting out chart-topping records, and touring and making fans happy.

So as a lover of Morrissey, and a lover of Weller, stop being wankers when anyone says anything other than complete praise of the man we've all grown to love.

I remember during the red wedge tour in the 80s when J.Marr was asked to join weller on stage for some finale type thing.
Weller ignored Marr and treated him like a nobody.
So MrMarr made a few phone calls and took his band -The Smiths- to the next red wedge event and blew weller and everybody else to bits.
It was a sweet day.

Moz likes Weller because the Jam were an amazing band and that post-punk world was made a special place for many of us growing up in our various ways by bands like the Jam...all that really matters are the records.
Those little black plastic seven inch singles that were so precious... and I think this may be the first time Weller has actually acknowlegded that The Smiths singles were great!

The Style Council were twice the band The Smiths could ever be.

Weller is to England what Bruce Springsteen is to America. They're both iconic national treasures.

If you can't appreciate either then you're a sad, misinformed cretin.

The thing about Weller is that he has attempted so many different musical styles over the years. He has challenged both himself and his fans over and over again. And just when you thought that it was all over for him after the horrible "As Is Now", he returns with a double album of great variety. If only Morrissey could do something similar. He's been stuck in a rut for years, reaching a new low with his last 2 singles. "Dear God Please Help Me" and "Sweetie Pie" were honourable attempts at doing something different, please try and do some more imaginative stuff, Moz!

I've always wondered why Weller has given Moz a hard time. Moz appreciates him to an extent and it's pretty obvious from Weller's comments that he's simply never bothered to take the time to listen to and understand Moz's records, which is a shame.

I don't have any interest in Weller outside of his work with the Jam, but virtually all of the complaints cast his way can be applied to Morrissey as well.

Morrissey's solo career has been fairly ridiculous since Southpaw Grammar. It was his obvious "jumping the shark" moment.

Only the sad sacs who imagine that Morrissey is eavesdropping on their comments make any effort to qualify his work since Southpaw Grammar.

The only thing that made YATQ palatable was how bad ROTT was.

From the songs that Morrissey has introduced thus far, the new album looks to be much of the same paint by numbers crap.

...is of course entitled to his opinion, not that it will make much of a difference and from my own perspective Morrissey isn't a quintessential Englishman, isn't he more complex than that? He is so many things, Irish for a start...yet of course hugely influential in the English cultural landscape, but there is so much complexity contained within that. I am almost certain that Weller continues to be peeved that he does not continue to intrigue in the same way that he used to, and that Morrissey continues to...but that's just MY opinion.

I love Paul Weller. The Jam is a fantastic band and put out hit after hit...next time he wants to talk about not being into artists, he should be reminded that he was in The Style Council and be forced to listen to EVERY, and I mean EVERY god awful song her ever thrusted upon the public....that being said, I still love the Jam, and enjoy some of his solo work

Weller is out here (Melbourne) in August and if he so much as mentions the word "Morrissey" dahn at my local I will give him a ruddy good punch on the bottom!!

The Jam was great but when I first heard/saw what the style council ( lower case on purpose) was I could not believe that it was fronted by the same Paul Weller.??? Horrendous music!
Paul turning 50!? I though he would be turning 60. He looks so old..bags under the eyes and all. The hair never bothered me..but the male breasts he has now are just plain disturbing.

Im beginning to doubt if he really wrote the Lyrics to any of the Jam hits at all.Weller is of no significance as a solo artist,Credit where Credit is due the Jam rocked! and even some style council stuff is still enjoyable(although some of weller's vocal recordings through these years were dreadful)since then he met the blues...woooo...and Im sorry but I could'nt name one of his solo Albums or songs,he has become irrelevent and has resorted to cheap mindless guttersnipe to promote his work...sad.

Ok so most Americans don't know who Moz is or they usually say something like, "Morrissey, uh, who is that again?" There is some familiarity with him.
However, Paul Weller? No one knows who the bloody hell he is in America or even Latin America...or even Canada! The name doesn't even ring a bell. And while yes we all know America is not world, one would hesitate to list Paul Weller as one of the great successful musicians/writers of all time.

I've been a fan of Weller since the late 70's and still find his stuff of some interest, Ive seen him live in all three forms. The Jam, Style Concil and Solo, seen him live on both sides of the Pond and I'll probably keep going to see him and buy his new albums until he stops one day. I personally consider him top five all time as a songwriter, if any young people are interested in exploring his work I would recommend Stanley Rd or the "catch a flame" live album, if you want his best from way back check out the Jam's 3rd album "All mod cons".

However!

In 1995 I read a interview where Weller said he liked Oasis. That was the first time and unless he has stated something recently that I missed, the ONLY TIME that I EVER heard him to be complimentary about ANYONE. So this should come of no suprise or be regarded as any kind of revelation either. The guy hasn't spoke to former bandmates in decades for no reason, look up Bruce Foxton, Mick Talbot or Eick Bickler interviews and you'll see what sort of man he is. Not to mention his ex wife, look up some of her quotes. He's a wanker, a quintessential wanker.

His new LP sonunds "nice" which is probably the worst kind of back-handed compliment you can deliver

Really Weller has his hardcore fan base and Moz has his. Arguably the latter are more diverse in terms of age range but they're both "part of the proud lineage of English bands" that the likes of cultural wankers like Robert Elms/ Paolo Hewitt etc make their careers out of whilst snorting charlie whilst more kids die around the world.
