JAMES MAKER : Statement on Autobiography Extract
posted by davidt on Friday June 27 2008, @12:00PM

JAMES MAKER writes:
I published a short extract from the chapter, "Morrissey: Gide The Ripper" of my forthcoming autobiography on MySpace. Regrettably, someone disabused my trust and submitted it to this site.

Such is the snatch & grab, baggage reclaimcarousel of life.

However, I would like to thank the well-wishers who have contacted me with messages of support and kindness. Thank you.

There has been much nonsense and conjecture written about Morrissey over the years.
It is no wonder. He is the most important, most enigmatic Pop artist of the 20th-century and, thusfar, this.

But assumptions often make a fool of one.

I care not one iota for the tales that circulate about me personally -- nor regarding my friendship with Morrissey.
I am 47 and merely grateful to have found a reliable source of fresh winter vegetables.

I am not in touch with Morrissey's organisation, neither am I influenced. I am my own person.

The book is being edited by a close friend (and popular colourist) Abigail Lawson, and will hopefully be released after the ink has dried on a contract that allows me to spend a much-needed Christmas in Montevideo.

I enjoyed the original story and James sounds like an all right guy, but what's with:

"I published a short extract from the chapter, "Morrissey: Gide The Ripper" of my forthcoming autobiography on MySpace. Regrettably, someone disabused my trust and submitted it to this site."

If you post something online, then it's assumed you don't care that people see it, right? In fact, you want them to see it!! Why does he care that someone (probably not even someone he knows which is another reason why I don't understand his statement) re-posted it here. A LOT more Moz fans know about his book now than if it was just on his MySpace!

While James Maker certainly comes off as a well read, rather interesting human being, the whole narcissistic stand up routine tends to wear.

He seems far too similar to Morrissey in how obviously calculated his quips are.

Sadly, he often comes across as some cloistered English auntie who finds infinite enjoyment in sipping tea, and and watching the neighbor's kids play in the yard.

Anyhow, it's very self-conscious.

Sincerely,
Bike Boys Go Bananas.

Who else has been added to James' friend list on Myspace?
He's got four people in his top friend list who I assume he knew before the big leak on here.

One guy profile picture is with Maker and another guy looks a lil like Moz.

James' info lists him as 'in a relationship'. I wonder if one of these guys is his partner?
Just wondering cause I'm quite bored ;\ I'm not wanting to start an abusive thread.

LOL! So, Morrissey is the "most important" pop artist of all of the 20th Century as well as the 21st Century thus far? How on earth can a pop artist whom the vast majority of people have never even heard of be the most important? More important than Elvis? Well, perhaps more important than El Vez.

I'm not saying this to disparage Morrissey. I consider him a great singer and lyricist, one of my faves of all time, and his body of work is endlessly enjoyable and fascinating to me. But if James Maker weren't so pretentious he'd simply say Morrissey is his favorite pop artist. I hate to tell you, but in 100 years almost no one but the most obsessive pop music history buffs will know or care who Morrissey was.
