Lily Allen pulls out of Isle Of Wight festival - NME.com

Quote from Isle Of Wight festival organiser John Giddings:

“I find it very disappointing. These artists don't seem to have a responsibility to their audience. Morrissey pulled out two weeks before the festival [in 2005], claiming he was never booked, and he told us he didn't have a drummer.

“I offered him Phil Collins and he still said he wouldn't do it, but Travis replaced him and they were absolutely phenomenal."

  • What I think about Collins music I will be interrested to hear how he play on Smiths/ Moz songs after all he's a good drummer...

  • Phil Collins 'offered' to stand in for Bonzo for this mis-guided effort.

He fucked up Kashmir in rehearsals. Page/Plant/JP Jones nearly off'd him. They only went ahead because Bob Geldof was driving them bonkers goin on about butter mountains and mosquito nets and shit.

Phil Collins jumped on a plane to Philly to play with some idiots rather than focus on the most important moments of his life. He fk-uk'd up big time.

Zep have NEVER! authorised the release of the footage on the DVD set of Live Aid. I, personally, think it's been one of the main reasons they haven't resolved their differences till now. Post-Phil-Collins-Traumatic-Stress Disorder.

Mind you, Page and Plant could have asked that nice young Mike Joyce to bang a gong now and then....is that sacriligous enough? LOL

If this is a true anecdote: Morrissey made a smart move. I doubt it's true.
Phil is a great drummer. An awful singer. Rap groups love him, constantly sample hideous post-Gabriel Genesis albums. Yet some people still maintain there's hope for the world.

    Go figure.

Is that the right expression? Can I please become American? It sounds so glamorous. I could plant a garden with 'just rose'...

    Regards.

  • That's hysterical. Granted, Phil Collins is a talented drummer, but he's really unleased some dreadful songs on the world.

Could you imagine Mozzer singing through Sussidio?

  • So at the time IOW said Moz had parted ways with his drummer which Moz denied. Looks like they were right and Moz was trying to cover up that Deano left him for Good Charlotte. It's a good thing I still enjoy the music cause I would have jumped ship if this was another band's drama.

  • I have no idea why Moz didn't give this more thought. They could have done "Susudio" for an encore.

  • I hate him. He embodies everything I hate about the 1980s. He is so fake. His music is so over-the-top and over-produced. I don't care what anyone says, he is NOT that good of a drummer. His vocals are a headache. And I will never forgive him for being featured in "Miami Vice." His emotional pleas are saccharine and hackneyed. I would rather die than see him perform live under any circumstance. Urgh.
    PS- His lyrics are cliched.
    Very truly yours,
    Ken

  • As me and anne marie played our throw back to the 60's animals records, along with stiff label dury, costello etc, her brother would be blasting over with genesis

thats how people grow up and listen too far long than is good for them

  • Always hated the way Collins looked when he sang even more than the songs themselves. Would pay money to hear the silence on the other end of the line when they mentioned Phil Collins to Morrissey.

AND YET -- despite the deep dish cheese of In the Air Tonight, it somehow worked in the Miami Vice movie (which ironically features Tosar, mentioned a couple news articles down from this one).

Travis are like prematurely aged old men. Morrissey comes off a lot younger.

  • Pop artists don't have a "responsibility" to their audience. They write songs. If we like them, we buy them. If we don't, we don't. Likewise if their voice packs in half way through a gig -tough shit. Would we expect footballers to play with a broken foot? Having said that, when someone of Morrissey's stature plays Whitehaven Civic Hall (google earth it), and tours his arse off for 18 months flat, you can harldy accuse him of neglecting his fans.

  • Tax exiles Phil Collins and Morrissey would get on like a house on fire. They were both born and bred in the UK, but have turned their back on the country that nurtured them. Oh well.

  • Anyone who offers Morrissey Phil Collins as a drummer is one of two things. A moron. A delusional fool. It's scary to think of the position of power such a man has.

What does he think Moz is going to say to being offered Collins? This man obviously has no idea about artists. Also, are we really to believe that Phil Collins would play with Morrissey.

This guy is talking out of his ass!

  • the sentence "I offered him Phil Collins" probably meant "I was prepared to offer Phil Collins for sacrifice".

"By my life, by my Crown, by my Gods. Whatsoever you desire, I will give it to you, even to the half of my kingdom, if you will but dance for me. O Morrissey, Morrissey, dance for me!"

Morrissey being an animal lover, pulled out.

  • I'm shocked as to how many 'He's a good drummer, but i don't like him' remarks there are from Morrissey fans!!! He is not a 'good' drummer, not even an 'ok' drummer, he is completely shit as both drummer and singer. He is also a complete tosser and the only thing he will ever do of any value is to die. If you think he's a good drummer, then you seriously know fuck all about drumming. No wonder Morrissey fans hate his recent single and moan about stuff all the time. They are obviously all bloody thick as shit.
