Why isn't Mike Farrell on keys?

I guess there will be no symphonic songs like Never Played Symphonies...The songs will nonetheless sound much more alive than recent efforts. I can't wait to hear it...I want it to come out now! Something is Squeezing My Skull!

Mike Farrell was used for an 'elegant' touch for Ringleaders. In which, he performed magnificently by the way.

Now I find it interesting that Morrissey is choosing this 'punk' sound for his upcoming album.

Let's just hope for the best.

Have lots of respect for Roger Manning. A very talented bloke who's playing music for the simple pleasure of making the best music possible. His work with Jellyfish is incredible and very underrated. Can't wait to hear the new album - bring it on Moz!

I just hope the lyrics on the new album are a (vast) improvement on the bilge we have heard so far. Put in a wider context, with the exception of Ganglord, Teenage Dad on his Estate, Never Played Symphonies, and the odd verse in First of the Gang... Morrissey's writing has nose-dived dramatically since Maladjusted, with his latest single, THPGU, representing an all-time career low. I have to turn it off whenever it comes on the radio. What happened to the love and attention and the craftsmanship that went into his lyrics right up until 1997. It's like he's plucking Morrissey cliches out of the air now....it's like he can't be arsed.

Sounds like the new record is already "in the can". It's so annoying that it takes so long for things to get released. Why wait until September?

I actually liked him. He added a lot to the live shows and thought his 2 contributions (at last i am born & sweetie-pie) were, aside from pigsty, the best tracks from the ROTT recordings since they were a bit different. oh well!

sounds good so far... but there is a lot of time and things could go to hell. Remember, Ringleader was first said to be "punk" like and it didn't turn out that way.

We hear this kind of commentary before the release of every single Morrissey album, only to find that there hasn't been any great redirection in the Morrissey sound.

When there are attempts at redirection, they come across as meager, or superfluous.

I predict that it will be a predominantly modern sounding, power chord slog with a few clumsy attempts at experimentation.

The question remains, however, as to how many more poorly conceived albums Morrissey can produce before he alienates all but the truly psychotic elements of his fanbase? You know, the cultists who buy his music simply because his fifteen year old face is slapped on the packaging.

that sounds spot-on! Esp with the new bassist/bass sound - much fresher and vibrant. Now i'm excited, imagine All You Need Is Me sounding as punky as [or more so than] it did on Jolls Holland.

This is an area that Moz rarely does but sounds amazing when he does. Now get Rick Rubin or Ross Robinson producing!!

Hmmm, ‘punk pop heaven’ is that really what he thinks he has been working on? To use the P word for a bunch of clowns like Gap endorsed Blink 182 is beyond tragic. I wonder if this guy has ever listened to The Clash, Bad Brains or even The Buzzcocks. Interesting how Moz is picky about whom he shares his door bus with, but when it comes to actually recording one of his records, he couldn’t care less. Finn’s production on Quarry was absolutely vile – a hideous LA rock sheen complete with naff sound effects. It made what few good songs there were frankly unlistenable. Let’s face it folks, Moz is in a career nose dive: His stupefying U.S tour, lame releases, cancelled shows and lyrics he would have dismissed ten years ago. I can’t see Jerry Finn giving him the kiss of life. The best we can hope for is our Moz fronting er … Green Day. There is no sense of adventure or daring with Moz these days, the man has become a caricature of himself, all empty posturing and vacant asides. It is worse than seeing Elvis put on the pounds and ghost walk through 10,000 movies. What happened people? Can it really be that he has nothing to say anymore? Has his wealth robbed him of his hunger … his creativity? The man is destroying himself and he is deluded if he thinks some of us haven’t noticed. I never thought Moz would give up on the miracle of pop – I thought he truly believed in its unique power to liberate, comfort and energize. But no more, pop for Moz is Jerry Finn and the corresponding bank balance. How monumentally rubbish is that?

Glorious as Marr's music was, Morrissey couldn't have gone on in the same vein indefinitely. I like the way his band now, is fairly elastic and dynamic. You never know what you're going to get. And I don't agree that Morrissey's lyrics have deteriorated either. They are less contrived , and more spurious than they used to be. If that makes them less poetic - then so be it. The knack to enjoying Morrissey's solo offerings is to approach them with an open mind and put the time and effort into actually listening to the stuff. Sure, it's no longer 'majestic' , but it's quirky, and awkward, and intriguing. So come on all you naysyaers it's time that YOU made the effort - not Morrissey. Johnny Marr gave it to you on a plate - it's not served that way anymore. Incidentally, listening to the new single on vinyl is a truly inspiring experience for me. Remarkably crafted and energetic - and crazy drumming!. Brilliant.
