Update: 01/16 18:33 GMT:

Merck Mercuriadis sends in clarification that the CD WOW tracklist is incorrect and that the tracks are actually remastered, not remixed:

"...All of the mixes used are the original mixes. All tracks have however been remastered so the sound is the truest (and loudest!) available to date."
---
Likely incorrect info as Merck Mercuradias stated that "Alma Matters" does not appear on any of the Greatest Hits editions.

  • I'm pretty sure that that's a minor mistake, and that the songs on the comp have been newly remastered. I'm not expecting Morrissey to chucking any phat beatz into his back catalogue.

  • Remix
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

A remix is an alternative version of a song, different from the original version. A remixer uses audio mixing to compose an alternate master recording of a song, adding or subtracting elements, or simply changing the equalization, dynamics, pitch, tempo, playing time, or almost any other aspect of the various musical components. Some remixes involve substantial changes to the arrangement of a recorded work, but many are subtle, such as creating a "vocal up" version of an album cut that emphasizes the lead singer's voice.

  • This is another fabricated hoax. A REMIX Greatest Hits album? Please!

First of all, it lists "Redondo Beach" as having been remixed. Considering this was a live recording, how on earth could you (let alone WHY would you) remix a live track?

  • the songs are going to sound how they do when you see them in concert now, because live theyre played differently and have lyric and musical changes.

  • They just wanted to give us something to bitch about. If they throw the word Remix in there, we can spend the day complaining and worried about altered sound, some will be excited about a remix, others will be shocked, and eventually we'll find out that we all hate eachother, and start calling people moaners, and tell them their posts could have been written by Hitler, and that someone else is a total troll, and we'll realize the only thing we agree on is hating the other half of the people that post here. FUN!!!

  • Many of you don't seem to know the details regarding remastering. The songs are louder because they are converted to the digital standard format, bass included. The first CD's pressed in the 80's were albums mixed for Vinyl (including The Smiths...Doors, Bob Dylan, Beatles...etc). Mixing them for CD is neccessary and cannot be a bad thing. At the very least, if you can't tell the difference, with a remastered compilation you don't have to adjust the volume quite so much upon listening.

They've done a great job lately with the Doors, Joy Division, The Stooges, Leonard Cohen, The Cure and many other great (and not so great)albums & artists. Occasionally people get it wrong in the mix, but it's worth it overall. If you don't like it, they can't take your originals away!

I'm still awaiting proper New York Dolls album releases. When they remaster those, listen to the old and new and hear the difference. That should be an incredible indicator of what remastering can do. For now compare the Stooges first CD's with the newer versions. BIG BIG difference.
