  • I like that old Morrissey...which is ironically the young Morrissey. Maybe the tracklist is real though...Oh No! Aww well. I guess most of the other songs are on his Rhino best of and he didn't want 2 mostly identical "Best Ofs". Maybe this is best of what isn't on there, plus a few that are completely unavoidable...(Suedehead, Sunday etc...) ...The best of what's left!

Can someone help me with my question below???

I can't find the new song. I listened to the whole Zane show, well... I skipped 5 mins at a time twice..... What time do they play it? Is there somewhere else to hear it? The Studio Version I mean...Please let me know! Thanks,

  • They should have titled the compilation "Living in the Past."

With the use of younger photos to veil the fact that Moz is not aging well, you would think that this was a posthumous release.

Morrissey's career has become a joke, and his fans on here have become an even bigger one.

  • Thank you, Guilliaume and David for posting. This is a beautiful shot (it says, "Let me kiss you..." So wonderful for the fans, coming from Moz!). I can appreciate this particular photo so much better on a record/cd sleeve than on the tour t-shirts. I'd rather see it, kiss it, hold it in front of me than wear it for others to see. Weird? hmm... maybe it's just me.

Thanks again for sharing. This will be a nice collection. Maybe spark a further resurgence of his popularity or just further establish his greatness for those who've haven't dared to take a listen all these years (like my brother, on whose messy bedroom floor I first saw Moz's first solo tape all those years ago. He's nary had a listen since)? The photo is reminiscent of Anton Corbijn's on Viva Hate except this one is pure Love. Open-hearted. Who's the photog?

    Casual Daydream or Lucid Dreaming?
    Rapture? Hypnogogia ?
    Meditative? Contemplative?
Comforting, exuding a sense of repose and peace of mind.

Monochrome. Maybe a ‘subtle sepia’ would be more evocative for a retrospective / end of an era selection?

As the track listing covers tracks all the way back to ‘Last Of The International Playboys’, I don’t see the issue of it not being a recent photo.

Unusual to avoid ‘eye contact’ with the potential casual purchaser. And the Title and Artist font sizes are also very subdued.

I’d love a high quality print of this for Art Collection.
I find it very calming after the unflattering photos resulting from the contretemps with NME.

"I was extremely handsome in my 30s.... And no I didn't look like a genetic docker from County Mayo." (I reckon Morrissey takes this insult/ compliment to heart)

Remember folks the Under The Influence CD- the first sign of Morrissey being a DJ in the vein of Guilty Pleasures (apart from a 6 yr hiatus) featured photos from the mid/ early 90s.

Ultimately does Morrissey wank over younger photos of himself?

  • A ten-year-old photo smacked over a tracklisting that's largely second-rate new material. Technically, it does represent most of his biggest hits, but this rather falsely reflects the fact that he sold the most singles in 2004-06, rather than the quality of his overall career or even of those years.

His deal with Decca seems to be, in every way, chintzy as all-get-out - the fact that people are complaining about the appearance and layout of an album which has nothing to do with Morrissey's priorities or aesthetic says a lot about their high expectations that he really will involve himself in every aspect of his productions, always hold his label's balls firmly in hand and show every sign of giving a crap about his fans in the process. Unfortunately these expectations are just blatantly unmet, and I think this shitty little release bodes ill for the next record.

I have an unfounded theory, though, that all of this isn't really a sign of Morrissey Becoming Industry - he's become many things but not Industry. Rather I suspect it's about age, very simply. Sanctuary, bless them, at least let Morrissey get older in peace - one suspects that any mainstream label (and Decca, brave spin or no, is now the chintzy arm of a very mainstream label) is going to deplore this "decision" and have his age, at the very least, drastically downplayed. These people are desperate to begin with, and their only hope is to sell to the kids.

Whether he made it or not (and I think he didn't), the decision to get younger (not terribly young, but certainly in his late thirties again) may have been the only one available. I seriously think the record industry is this dumb. End of theory.

And yes, of course, I think Morrissey's got nothing whatsoever to be ashamed about, and a lot to be glad of, with regard to how he looks at forty-whatever. He's a silver fucking fox.

That said, it's a great photo and has a neat Cover Star sort of feel, so if nothing else, we know it ain't an ugly album.

    12. Lucky Lisp
    13. Boy Racer
    14. Ganglord
    15. Throwing My Arms Around Paris
    16. Life Is A Pigsty
    17. I know it's gonna happen someday
    18. Speedway

That would fucking sort it. I know they're not all 'hits' or even singles, but People Grow Up and All You Need haven't even been released so they're not hits either.

  • ... this cover sleeve doesn't work.

In recent years, Morrissey has been *trying* to show a rougher, tougher edge and so releases music that's louder, fuller (and generally crappier, I might add) than earlier, softer works. Publicity pictures back this up. Being photographed circa "Quarry" with a Tommy and a suit, in comparison to earlier, more effeminate sounding, piano-based music like "Ouija board..." (which, by the way had a single sleeve quite like the one for this "Greatest Hits") is just one example.

He looks too young in this picture and it's insulting to himself and his fans. I mean seriously, it's false advertising, as not only does it show Morrissey looking a good ten years younger than he actually is, but also, it will lead one to believe that inside they'll find good music from yesteryear... from a Morrissey long, long gone.
