I'm happy that they decided to speed it up and not do one of those painfully slow acoustic covers that bore the pants off of you.

I really dig this and am happy that Radiohead paid their dues to one of their top influences.

Kudos for the spontaneous webcast.

The consensus is that Radiohead gets it.

                                              nice jam session. i like the Radioheadesque flavor added. if you haven't heard this user on YouTube: "danielearwicker", you should really check him out. he does the best Smiths covers... playing every instrument, mind you! no vocals, but a real mastery of the sound.                                               They nailed it. Great live/in-studio rendition. It sounds like just like they took the Meat Is Murder version, took off Morrissey's voice and replaced it with Thom's. That is meant to be a compliment. Top Notch.

Boz once said that this song was a "bit of a head scratch" - I think he meant hard to figure out how to play. Thom's yelps were almost as good as Morrissey's!                                                       Instrumentally gorgeous, but Thom Yorke's beautiful voice sort of glides over the lyrics, where Morrissey drives the point forcefully home.

                                                      Still, I've already emailed this to enough people who really like it too. I'm tired of hearing that Radiohead should be Morrissey's new backing band!

                                                      Radiohead did mighty fine with their cover...Thom Yorke, though a different type of singer, can effectively emote the pain of Headmaster, like our man Moz. What would Johnny think of (Jonny Greenwood's) guitar work? He would probably smile, because the guys looked like they enjoyed playing such a great, intricate song...one of the Smith's best!

                                                          I love that my favorite band still in existence covers one of my favorite songs from the best band of all time! Listening to Radiohead play the song makes it even more apparent how much RH (and most indie rock bands) are indebted to The Smiths. It seems like The Smiths truly created modern alterntaive rock, right!

                                                                        I'm shocked to see the enthusiastic response this truly terrible cover version has got on this site. I find the reverence bestowed upon Radiohead unfathomable. Radiohead normally conceal their shortcomings in a myriad of studio effects, but in this webcast they stand stripped naked before us. They sound like a pub band, mindlessly butchering a pristine classic. Even Boz & the lads are miles better than this.

                                                                                yeah this was a good "live" cover. people are saying it is the best smiths cover, which makes me think who all has done smiths/moz covers that are one youtube. I think we should come up with a list of artist who have done this and lets all have a vote.
