Heading "statement"

My band, KRISTEENYOUNG, have been asked to leave the Morrissey tour. Although I have been advised not to respond or issue a statement, my feelings are that I must. We have been asked to leave because of something I said on stage at The Hammerstein Ballroom, in New York City, this past Tuesday night. Unfortunately, the statement has been perceived as being profane (when, actually, one of the two words in question is a scientific term found in junior high, health class text books, and the other word, I feel most would agree, is lightweight slang) or defamatory. What I said was part of a thread of stage statements I made throughout our set. They were metaphorical and overstated to make an artistic point. The “offending” statement, in particular, was in no way a literal statement, and was very much in keeping with the tone of my writing in general. I reach for beauty and intelligence in my lyrics, but try to retain a bit of the everyday in them. Maybe the statement was a bit TOO everyday. Maybe I misjudged… but I meant no harm. I love Morrissey with all of my heart, soul, body, spirit, to the core of my existence and always will. These will be the only words I will ever write or speak on the subject ever again. Please don’t ask for an interview or e-mail me with questions.

Update: 10/27 13:29 GMT: Kristeen Young's MySpace page updated with a tour statement, with the same text as above and adding:

"Thanks to those who understand and who are brave enough to say so."

  • Was this from some email list off her site that you signed up for or was it a personal exchange you were privy to? I'm just curious. No one else has any reports of this outside of the rumors.

Assuming it's not some sort of prank, I'll admit it's a slight bit of a surprise this far into the tour.

A different producer for the next album?

My vote goes to John Cale - he'd give Moz's songs a twist, but still leave the sheen.

  • I have to hold my hand up; I didn't see this one coming. Can hardly believe it. What's stranger is that Morrissey and Visconti have this close relationship (or did) and Visconti is with Kristeen, right? So this may well affect the forthcoming album, which was, as far as anyone outside the inner circle could tell, due to be produced by Visconti. It's hard to see how Visconti could continue working with Moz after this. And you'd think that given Moz and Visconti were supposedly fairly 'close'(-ish) Moz might have been inclined to give Kristeen a second chance. But there you have it.

It was a stupid and not very witty thing to say on Kristeen's part, but I would never have imagined Moz would react like this. But he is unpredictable at times, isn't he.

  • I was actually really looking forward to seeing Kristeen play tonight, more than any other opening band in my history of concert-going. When I heard she was opening for Moz's tour, I had no idea who she was, but started to search out her music. The more I learned about her (and the more I listened to her music), the more I liked her.

She's...odd, that's true. But it's what makes her so intriguing. I really don't understand what the big fuss was about her comments the other night. I found them amusing. This definitely puts a "taint" to tonight's show. I really hope Moz isn't "off" tonight because of this either. I definitely hope this wasn't a Moz decision, and was instead a mangement decision (doesn't make it any better, but I'd hate to think Moz was so thin-skinned).

ok, so....basically we just got a call a half hour ago to find out that we in fact ARE NOT now opening for Morrissey after all. as it turns out, friends of his, a NYC band called "Girlfriend In A Coma" are now opening up the shows, and
Morrissey has apparently apologized and told us that he is "very, very sorry",
that he likes Vetiver very much, but that "it just doesn't make sense".

    you're telling me!

so anyway, no hard feelings, we're all actually very excited to head home and get some rest, and i'm sure all of this will be for the best.

  • There had been a minor scandal which she felt to compelled to 'correct' in a myspace posting, after she did that photoshoot with Moz between her legs (and there was some quote attributed to her in the article where she supposedly said she was excited by having her legs wrapped around his head. Which she denied she had said).

So especially considering there was that 'history' there already, it was an even stupider thing to say. Maybe that was why Moz was as unhappy about this as he was.

  • She's gone. OK? Are you happy? you all get what you want. May you all enjoy whatever non-challenging, sycophantic, forgettable shit he next picks to open his shows.

I see his side of things - she compromised his hard-built aesthetic - but I think he's making a big mistake not lowering his ego enough to say "I forgive you."

What she said may have been somewhat regrettable but given the circumstances, is it really so strange? She's human. Morrissey asked for Elton John to BEHEADED, but when Elton John's response was to praise the Smiths, Morrissey recanted and took back his "bigmouth" moment.

That he won't do the same for Kris- a partner, collaborator, artistic comrade, and -above all else, a FRIEND- is sad. But he's Morrissey and he calls the shots. Look at his legacy...Johnny...Mike Joyce...Stephen Street...David Bowie...the list goes on.

She made an irresponsible comment, yeah...but you fuckheads couldn't wait to stone her.

It's funny, because I was listening to a bootleg the other night from earlier in the tour where he closes by saying "Hold on to your friends, take risks, be careful." Ironic.

For the last year and a half you have done nothing but boo her, heckle her, wish her gone, wish her dead, wish you could fuck her, wish she would give up...but she remained, because all she needed was him. And her own artistic integrity, which I assure you, she has in abundance. Every bit as much as HE does. It's just a different kind of art.

Do you know how brave and how strong she must be to have weathered the bile and venom spewed at her in buckets ever since this thing began last year?

Even if you don't like her music -which is hard for me to understand, but anyway- even if you don't like her music, you should support her as a feminist, as an artist, and as a fellow Morrissey apostle. She has done NOTHING to you people.

should be pop, then it will evaporate in the

  • a) What she said offended his aesthetic sensibilities...his form of subversiveness has always been more highbrow...i.e.; "is there any point ever having children"...THIS is a very offensive, subversive statement...yet phrased in a Morrisseyan package. Blunt, dressed-down quips about giving head have never been his style, so it's no shock he would want to distance himself from the person who made those statements...and on HIS stage, no less.

b)his family was in the audience, WHICH SHE KNEW

c)He is aware of the (false) rumours surrounding his romantic involvement/interest with/in her. As was she. Making that comment to friends or to those in the know, in private company, is one thing, but saying it to a huge crowd who doesn't get you to begin with and also doesn't WANT to get you, and who ALREADY thinks there's something sexual going on...this is the height of irresponsibility.

    d) Morrissey is repressed. He built a public image on celibacy...and it wasn't just an IMAGE! What's more, he has labored and toiled for a quarter century to stay sexually ambiguous and to keep his day to day life guarded like Fort Knox. Her comments - though taken WAY out of context by the repressed, puritanical audience- compromised his image GREATLY.

Yes, his abandonment of her is something of a betrayal, or at least seems harsh, but in a way, she let HIM down first. He respected her artistic integrity and she KNEW what kind of crowd she was dealing with. She overestimated the audience's appreciation of her art/sense of humour and crossed the line, aesthetically, in the context of a Morrissey affiliation.

Yes her statements were obvious hyperbole and meant to incite, etc...and I understand that, and alot of people understand that...probably even Morrissey understands that...but she picked the wrong time, wrong venue, wrong context. A mistake, yes..and I hate that she got sacked but...it's not as outrageous as it seems. (the firing, I mean.)

It's not that profound, people. He loves Kristeen as an artist but he has come too far to allow mistakes. So she was martyred for her art..which in a way is a fitting end to her career with Morrissey, a martyr in many ways himself. It's just a shame they're on different sides of the stake this time.

  • Morrissey's track record has shown that he is nothing more than a prudish puritan, with a fascist streak. The way in which he has treated so many human beings in his life is evidence enough, but this recent act has truly caused him to jump the shark.

The idea that he can dump friendships over the most trivial matters, makes you wonder why anyone would feel comfortable being friends with him in the first place?

I've always said that he is an 80 year old English woman in disguise, and this pretty much proves it outright. He really needs to grow up. The man acts as if it is a privilege to know him, and that is entirely disgusting.

He also seems to suffer from intense insecurity over his perceived homosexulaity. He refuses to talk about it, and then he fires a friend when a harmless joke is made about the subject. It's time to figure yourself out Moz, and get on with it.

Playing the confused teenager at almost 50 is not attractive, or interesting, it's just down right pathetic.

Kristeen Young found out what most Morrissey's friends eventually find out, and that's the fact that they were never really his friends in the first place. She was just a piece a furniture that needed to be rearranged when the time was right.

Flame on sycophants. Morrissey's goodwill has just about run out.

  • And Morrissey Fucked UP....

Kristeen: Onstage oppology, and say that she didnt mean to ofend Morrissey. Would have been proper.

Morrissey: Should have not kicked her out. We all make mistakes. If you only herd what "YOUR FANS" say in real life.
