Excerpt:

22 August 2007

Morrissey's current tour began 18 months ago in Tulsa, Oklahoma, supporting his U.K. #1 album Ringleader Of The Tormentors. When 2006 was brought to a close with two sold out shows at Manchester's G-Mex Arena, the tour was 90 shows in, and everyone assumed that was the end. 2007 has brought another 47 shows, bringing the total so far to 137, and from the now-famous run of London Palladium shows to the Alexandra Palace, from Mexico City to Stockholm, from Omaha, Nebraska to the Hollywood Bowl, there have been many incredible nights all over the world, and almost all of them sold out.

We are now delighted to announce the final 30 shows of the tour, and, by the time it ends on the 4th of November, Morrissey will have played 167 shows over 21 months. These shows will be the last Morrissey will do for the foreseeable future. With that in mind, all of the venues have been specifically chosen, as they are small and intimate, where Morrissey can see the eyes of everyone in the audience, and those in attendance can be in the thick of it. The desire is to go out with some great memories for everyone, as who knows what the future will bring.

I had plans that I did not really want to cancel, and now I suppose I must - five nights at Hammerstein with Moz, with the threat of eternity hanging over our heads - there won't be a dry eye in the house.

Some may call this a ploy to sell tickets, but I think he's just letting us know that he's giged out, and needs a break. I cannot see the future so I have no intention of sitting down and sobbing. I reserve that for a day of blackness none of us wish to contemplate. I love Morrissey and I wish he'd come back and do some shows in dear old Blighty, but I don't begrudge the American fans one bit. That is a MASSIVE country so why shouldn't Moz do a massive tour there? And why shouldn't he then take a massive break? Touring is very hard work and it must be hard for the rest of the band to be away from friends and family for such extended periods. Besides, most of them have side projects too.

Let them play these dates, let the Americans enjoy it and let Morrissey live his life - he can write another bloody marvellous album for us, then start touring again.

And I'd like to see him tour Australia and New Zealand too - I'm not from there, I don't live there, but I am aware he has some loyal people there who would love a chance to see him live.

I am not planning on dying any day soon, though of course I cannot see past the foreseeable future, but I am hopeful that I will survive life long enough to see him again - maybe in England, maybe elsewhere, but until he's ready, I will wait patiently.

There is no way, that he had no idea that there were 30 more dates in the works, so why act like "Atlantic City, of all places" was the last show. Please.

The "season" ticket package prices are a great idea for those who plan to go to all the shows. At least some of us can save some money. However, I don't think it's fair that they should be given early entry night after night while the other "diehard fans" can only go to one or two shows. That means, they literally have no chance whatsoever to be up front. Crazy.

Per Julia: "These shows will be the last Morrissey will do for the foreseeable future. With that in mind, all of the venues have been specifically chosen, as they are small and intimate, where Morrissey can see the eyes of everyone in the audience, and those in attendance can be in the thick of it."

The next thing you know, he'll add another 50 shows! As he admits "I'm not sure I even exist offstage"! As far as looking into the eyes of the audience,You mean, he'll be looking into the SAME eyes of the season ticket holders night after night!

On a side note, even after you wait several hours for a spot against the rail, all of a sudden Julia traipses in and you get pushed to the side! Julia, you have been to enough shows. Either stay home and update your horrid website once in a while or watch the show from the balcony instead of wedging your way to the front all the time and pushing us "diehards" who spend a fortune on tickets and spend hours on our feet waiting. Thanks.

Julia, do us "season ticket holders" a favor and tell Moz and the band to shake up the setlist for the "die hards" who plan to attend 10 consecutive concerts in L.A. and 5 in N.Y. I would much rather hear a different setlist night after night than to save a little bit of money and have early entry. That's what us diehards want! I do not want to see the same exact show for 10 nights! That is what you need to tell Moz the next time he hands you the mic at the concert.

That being said, I am still ecstatic about all of the added dates! Can't wait!

Certainly, 'The Smiths' became legendary to a broad audience following their breakup, not during the time they were together - and that is the angle that would be played. There's certainly an existing audience for it (well beyond Morrissey fans) if everything could be hyped properly.

I think promoters are looking at the very healthy returns for reunion bands like 'The Police', and casting around for possible money-earners.
