I never expected it, but neither had anybody who had asked for them. So for a modest contribution to the theatre (which I offered, they didn't even ask for that), I left with (2) very nice posters from the show.

One of the posters (the better of the two) had a web site address for the designer. When I went to it, I was shocked to see that Moz himself had seen it and had highly complemented the artist on it. For those interested, copies are available for a modest cost. Here is the web site for those who are interested.

What is there to say? Morrissey, he is a golden god. A golden god with great taste, as the poster you are viewing was called: "The coolest poster ever." -Morrissey.
Oh man, I think I just fainted, AGAIN.

This is a 2-color, all hand-screenprinted poster with crimson red and metallic gold inks. Edition of 150. Size: 16x22. Paper: acid free Cougar, White 100lb cover weight. $25. (Please add $5 for orders shipping outside of the US & Canada.)

Unless otherwise requested, all orders are shipped within 5 business days, though usually much sooner. I like stupid little toys, hopefully you do too because there will be one or two in your tube.

      Very nice. I looked at your other posters and you're obviously influenced by the great artwork and graphic design of Polish film posters.

      I had my credit card ready, but then saw it was going through PayPal. I don't want my CC info going through that company -- if you have any other way to accept CC payments, please let post it so I can buy one!

      In the meantime, please tell us when and where Morrissey uttered the words about your poster?

        First of all, finding artists to design these regional posters for this tour is a great idea. I'm guessing that it is the tour company in charge who has commissioned these works in order to promote some of the shows.

        After that dirty fingernail fiasco involving one of the posters, (shame, that was a nice photo) at least this one claims to have had gotten that most coveted Mozzer Seal of Approval.

        Damn, I would love to do one for the next tour or event. I'm not much of a fine artist, most of my work is done on the computer, but at least I have clean fingernails.

                      how wonderful! I was so sad to have left the concert without a program or poster, and after an internet search tonight, I unintentionally happened upon this awesomeness! thanks so much for making such a cool work of art to commemorate that show!

                              I would just like to say that I have no association whatsoever with the artist who made this poster. The story I told was true. It makes no difference to me if you buy this poster or not. There was no "marketing ploy" involved. In fact, I have never even communicated with the artist. If you like the poster, good for you. If you don't, good for you also. Nothing here was said for any other reason but to share with other fans.

                                If Morrissey really did refer to this poster as the "coolest ever", I am guessing that he would not have been referring to the design, but of the silkscreening process that was used to create this.

                                Posters you see everyday are commonly printed with an offset press in the thousands. What makes this poster very special is that the artist/craftsman decided to print it with silkscreen in limited quantities. In silkscreening, (from what I can recall from 8th grade shop class) a design is made and then separated depending of the number of colors used, in this case two plus white, being the paper. These designs get photo-transferred on a gellatin-based film, sort of like a stencil, that is adhered onto a fine mesh screen. The ink is then applied onto the screen an spread with a special tool in one stroke! Lift the frame and what you have is an image on paper.

                                Since there are two colors used, the yellow would be applied first, and would need to dry first before the red would be applied. By the way, that file gradient effect you see is nothing more that a series of dots (called a halftone) arranged mathematically.

                                The design itself needs to be kept simple; that's one of the constraints of the process. Contour shapes work best and in this case, the sans-serif lettering and the outline of Morrissey figure is used for optimum effect. Another contraint is the fine mesh fabric will slowly clog and degenerate after many prints, so the number of copies is kept to a minimum. If you ever seen Warhol's works on canvas, that degeneration of the image is used as an artistic statement, as well as his technique of offseting the colors when they are applied; great for Warhol, but otherwise not practical for a poster used to communicate.

                                Silkscreening is a tedious process, but greatly respected by fine artists and craftmen alike. Any collector of rock posters might consider adding something like this to his/her collection, for it is unique and not often done used in this application.

                                  that the "coolest poster ever" was uttered during a post-surf smoke-out in alain's beach-house, and the lavalamp's illumination probably had as much to do with it as the poster itself. not trying to take anything away from the design or anything, just saying that the fact that moz had a quarter-bag of top notch cali weed in him probably had something to do with it, thus causing him to utter the now-famous "whoa, coolest poster ever, braaahh"-comment.
