Just getting off the telephone with reps from both Madison Square Gardens and Live Nation, the Morrissey concert scheduled for 30 June 2007 has been postponed due to illness. Ticket holders are advised to hold onto to their tickets for a new date or get a refund at place of purchase. So very bummed out! Get well Morrissey, every tour since 1984 you have made it to Manhattan and we truly hope to see you soon!

Additional Information from MSG:
Please be advised that due to illness the MORRISSEY concert scheduled to take place at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, June 30, 2007 has been postponed. The singer was taken ill earlier this week seven songs into his performance in Boston, which forced the postponement of that show as well as shows in Northampton, Mass and Philadelphia. The artist's representatives are currently in the process of working on securing rescheduled dates and hope to make an announcement on Monday, July 2nd. Please retain your tickets. All tickets marked Saturday, June 30, 2007 will be honored at the new performance. For more information regarding the new date of this show, please continue to monitor www.thegarden.com.

  • When I was in Polluted Paris, as a student, I got one of those respiratory infections that makes you feel like your blood has been sucked. Then came a fever. I had to take an anti-biotic, an expectorant, pain medication, fever medication, and another one I can't remember. So I empathize completely, and feel even more sad about him than I felt about myself back then, because he has all those shows and those fans eagerly waiting to see him and nearly sitting on top of his head for him to recover ASAP (what can we do? we are mad about him). I feel he pushed as far as he could to do the Boston show, and I wish I could tell him that despite the brusque interruption, he gave me one of the best 20 minutes of my life. What amazed me was that despite feeling ill, the energy he transmitted was incredible, and unforgivable. If he or his tour managers decide to reschedule the show, I'll be very happy, much happier with that than with a refund. If rescheduling isn't possible, I'll feel sad, but I'll understand. We shouldn't just go for instant gratification all the time just because in adoring him we feel he owes us the world in return.

It's not evidence-based AFAIK, but it doesn't hurt, and I think it's very comforting and tasty: squeeze the juice of one lemon into a teapot of scalded water, add grated fresh ginger to taste, and sweetener of your choice to taste (I like to add enough to lapse into diabetic ketoacidosis).

  • Firstly, I am now sick too. The DNA that I had tightly wrapped as it was dark as I drove the point home appears to have given it to me too. Was at the doctors, and got antibiotics and a strong cough syrup. I just knew you were sick and now we both are. I hate to tell you people that I told you so -- but I told you so.
Actually you did me a REALLY big favor by canceling MSG, literally.

I love you. The person that I physically despise got me unacceptable seating arrangements and I hate him but I love you.

You were one -- I knew you were one. I am home ill as well and psychologically the thought of going to the garden was giving me really bad panic attacks to top it all off.
So once again you gave me a miracle.

I don’t mind being on these antibiotics and this cough syrup because the DNA seeped in.
I am now probably going to get hate mail as well but I am used to it but I don’t care what other people think of me. People are self serving, two faced, back stabbing evil humans and I have no use for 95% of the population.

Thank you again Morrissey -- lets both get well fast. I look forward to seeing you tonight on Letterman and in the future ---- when all is well. Thank you again.

  • It's nice to see an entire thread so far being respectful of the fact that Morrissey is a human being and can suffer from illness like the rest of us. I was shocked and ashamed to read some of the previous posts over the past few days regarding the cancellation of shows. I've been to a dozen concerts during the first leg of this tour, and thankfully (minus the early departure in Stockton, which wasn't a big deal to me) I haven't had a show canceled yet. That said, I flew around the country, including St. Louis and the Southwest which is quite far from my home in Northern California knowing that I was taking a chance of being seriously disappointed by the possibility of a show cancellation, etc. The bottom line is that it's always a possibility and it's the chance you take when you a do crazy thing like fly 2000 miles to see a show. He's human. Most of us, myself included, are incredibly fond of him and love him dearly. I'm just happy as hell that he's still performing and putting out incredible music . I'll be sending positive thoughts out to him hoping for a quick recovery. For those of you who have experienced it (as I have from being in the music business in the past), the road is brutal, no matter how much money you have. It takes a toll on you. It was a pleasant surprise this evening to login to this forum and see such a positive outpour of support and comments for the situation at hand. I say thank you to those who are on the same page as me, and for those who have such a negative approach to life, please reconsider.
    Thanks for keeping the faith!

I used to want you to play there but that was a long long time ago. But things change. I believe things happen for a reason and you canceling there was meant to happen for the better. The garden is not for people like you.; they are beneath you. Well done. BTW - I hope you have a speedy recovery and are feeling better.

  • Hi from New York! I've never been in America before. Thanks to Morrissey for spurring me to finally make the trip, this is a culturally rich and chique city. It's also lovely and warm, far away from the storms and sea-gull cafuffle back home! However I can't believe how nearly impossible it is in this hub of Western civilisation to locate internet facilities and then how expensive it is, so I've found myself a superb solution and am posting free from the historic and ornate magnificance of New York public library around the corner from me!

I was in situ last night to watch CBS Dave Letterman show in my hotel and my impression was that they deliberately intimidated Morrissey with banging on about the spare ribs, rather than accepting the 'mistake' cue. Even if that could be forgiven in the interest of perverse entertainment, the freezer element affects people. I sat on the plane next to a man who said he'd been in the audience at the Ed Sullivan theatre for that show and had distinctly remembered how arctic-like it was. To top it off, Letterman runs a lazy, dumb self-indulgent show; his saving grace is boyish charm and there's little point in trying to explain to him how people grow up. The song's a bit like 'Shyness is Nice', there's a vulnerability about it. Moz' performance was fantastic, but after that whole experience, it's no wonder he got sick in more ways than one. We live and learn.

I'll attempt to seek refunds for shows missed but I take responsibility for booking at my own risk. It'd be insane to blame a singer for falling ill and besides I'm having a lot of fun in this melting pot of cultural diversity, sight-seeing with a m-solo pal at the Frick Museum soon, dancing later etc. I do hope Morrissey rallies for an appearance before I go back, but if not, very soon, and anyway that's life, we'll pick ourselves up and get back in the race!

    Then we'll take Tehran!!

  • MORRISSEY this is a huge dissapointment. Moz has no respect for the fact that the show was in NYC where people come form all over to see him. He is a queen who only cares for his own feelings. No offense, but that is probably why he has always been alone. Really bad to cancel shows like this because your "sick", code for I don't feel like showing up. Unacceptable. Especially when people like me made sure to be in NYC for this. What kind of ilness isn't cured in a few days other then a very serious illness, which it is pretty clear he dosn't have or a release would have been put out by now. Now a bunch of PR and ticket reps have to apologize for his selfish behavior. BTW: Show on Letterman was terrible. Kristeen Young why don't you go model lightbulbs if that is your calling. 2 July 2007

Following the postponement due to illness of several shows last week, we are delighted to announce that Morrissey's U.S. tour will recommence tonight at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Va. Morrissey was suffering with a viral infection that brought his show in Boston at the Bank Of America Pavilion to a halt after seven songs last Tuesday the 26th of June. Following doctor's orders not to sing for five days, it also forced the postponement of shows in Northampton, Mass., Philadelphia, and New York's Madison Square Garden. The Boston show has been successfully rescheduled for this Saturday the 7th of July, and all tickets from the original date will be honored. It is hoped that rescheduled dates for New York, Philadelphia, and Northampton will be secured and announced in the next 24 hours.
