There's a full page ad for the MSG concert in today's NY Times (Apr. 22). Looks like they used a picture of Morrissey from the last time he appeared at the Garden.

Here is a link to an article in The Daily Evergreen, in which the author is both relieved and appalled that good Morrissey tickets were still to be had at the upcoming Spokane show.

Excerpt:
Imagine my ecstasy when two tickets in the orchestra popped up as available. Then imagine my absolute horror at the fact that this legend of a man – nay, a musical god – still hasn’t sold out his Spokane show. Come on, Washington. What are you all thinking? The Hollywood Bowl has sold almost all 17,000 tickets, while there are still primo seats at Spokane’s INB Performing Arts Center, which seats only 2,700.

  • I'm sorry about this, but I think Swallowneck has a point... He has just glanced at this advert and has suggested to me that Morrissey looks like he is being "pleasured"!!!

    Hmmm...

  • I am amazed at how Moz looks 15 years younger than his actual age! He truly is timeless.

  • I wish they'd used something current. It isn't as though he hasn't been photographed recently.

  • I would love a copy of this poster. I have the ringleader one that they posted up outside the Palladium last year. I managed to rip it down straight after the guys put them all up.

  • That's a hell of an ad for just for an AMEX presale. A full-page ad in the New York Times cost about $75,000.

The kerning between the letters in MORRISSEY could have used more careful attention, but other than that, this will fill definitely fill some seats with tushies at MSG.

I don't know if there will be posters around like this, but if I do see a few, I'll be sure to grab some.

  • Morrissey has made some of my all-time favorite music but ROTT is basically crap. Some of the lyrics on ROTT are truly disturbing. The decision to push the tour around ROTT and not his best work assures he will not sell many seats. I really wanted to go to MSG but after the TV performance of that crappy song the other night I will not be going. Morrissey really is lost.

  • ... when Morrissey had hair and didn't look like a fat Irish barman.

If only he looked like his poster. Alas, he's become Dorian Gray in reverse.

  • that's the reason for the American Express presale...So they can get this ad in the New York Times and whatever else free promotion. well i for one am pissed i couldn't purchase GA tickets because i am not a card holder. so it goes. I may skip the show. I'm tired of all this.

  • The man's 46, pushing 47. If you look as good at that age without plastic surgery then good for you. Till then, lay off a man aging gracefully for once.

  • I was listening to Sirius radio the other night and the DJ discussed the upcoming tour, and how great it was that Morrissey was finally playing in the States again. He seemed especially impressed with the NY gig, saying something like "after all these years, the man is playing Madison Square Garden, bless him, he deserves it."

He finished up with "47 dates, and he doesn't even have a new album to support." Like a total geek I called the station and corrected him.

I have to say, it would be impressive if Morrissey could fill this venue - it would be a real feather in his cap. I got tickets for a few of the smaller gigs, which I'm very excited about. I'll end up going to MSG, I'm sure, but I'm in no rush to get tix.

If Moz did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him.
  • i saw the times ad, and had wished it was a more recent picture. i wish i looked as good as he does at out age( a month apart ). i was outside MSG sunday, watching NY Rangers hockey hype on the outdoor jumbo screen, when all of a sudden, the same NY times ad appeared on the screen. i have to say, my heart skipped a beat, and a huge smile came to my face. god bless morrissey

  • I can't understand how ANYONE considers it necessary to slag him off for AGING..I mean, Jesus Christ, if that's the best we can attack him for,I'd say he's doing just fine.
As for the Kill Uncle -era pic being used, it's a little strange, but why not. He still looks that way INSIDE. To me that is the Morrissey I'll remember when he's gone...the Smiths finally behind him, his physique at its peak, his embrace of America in full swing. And this is when I got into him, personally...so I love the poster.
As for the NA leg of the tour focusing on ROTT and not his 'greatest hits' (whatever that means) he commonly opens shows with ancient Smiths singles like William or Panic, and on the Quarry tour frequent set openers were Shakespeare's Sister or Daddy's Voice. B SIDES, for god's sake. Nobody else does this. It's better than REM or U2 pretending they are s till relevant. He is an artist not only still creating great songs but completely in touch with the best ones from his past. He's happy so leave him alone...

  • Just found out that the Bloomsday marathon is the same weekend as the show. This is a huge event for Spokane, and getting out Sunday morning will be a struggle. Anyone see how cheap front and second row seats are going for this show on ebay?

All seats in this place are good since it's so small.

  • Embrace the fact that you are 48 not 32! Who cares! Concert posters should reflect where you are at in the moment, not who you were in 1991...Could you imagine The Rolling Stones on their 1981 Tattoo You tour advertising their shows with a 1965 photo of the band? People get older and change, Morrissey when will you accept yourself??
