I've just seen the trailer for "The Russell Brand Show" - his new Channel 4 chat show starting this Friday - and Brand says that Morrissey is definitely on next week (Friday 1st Dec).

He also says that performances will all be acoustic, so that will be very interesting to hear.

Finally, I bought Russell Brand's "Live" DVD this morning. I put it on this afternoon and, to my surprise, the background music on the DVD menu is "The Last Of The Famous International Playboys"! It's also used as his walk-on music.

Intriguing idea.

Personally, I hope there will be an interview - he is so completely riveting when he speaks. It is such a shame that he seems to regard chat shows as a form of torture, I think this is one instance where he underestimates his own charm.

If Moz did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him.

When Morrissey was in The Smiths he was almost like some kind of serial interviewee. He would appear in anything from the most base cut-and-paste xeroxed fanzine, through all the major music press, to many, many TV shows.

Something seemed to happen around the whole Finsbury Park debacle. I think he felt so betrayed, and so misrepresented(and misquoted) that he felt he had to create some kind of protective shell.
Between 1992 and 2004 his interviews were very sparse, practically creating the enigmatic figure of mystery he presents us with today.

I wonder which persona he's happier with?

The eloquent, effusive, intelligent communicator...or the dark, enigmatic recluse?

I absolutely understand his reticence when it comes to live television interviews - I don't blame him for being gun-shy. However, it's a fine line between being reclusive and being forgotten.

Many friends of mine (here in the US) have this attitude of "Morrissey - my god, is he still around?" I think a few guest shots could win back the hearts of many for whom he is a fading (but fond) memory, and prove that he still has what it takes to thrill and to charm.

This is his victory lap - it would be a shame if he let this moment slip through his fingers.

His cat is called Morrissey, so maybe that's what he means.

Russell was talking about 'Morrissey', his cat, on the Jo Whiley show yesterday.

He claimed: "He comes complete with a little Hitler moustache, which is ironic in many ways...haha. No, but I named him after Neil Morrissey...haha. No, of course he's named after Morrissey".

Russell is quite obviously a fan if you count the amount of times he used to drop the titles of Smiths/Morrissey songs into his appearances on 'Big Brother's Big Mouth'.
