Get the Message: The Best of Electronic

Hey, did you guys know that the guitarist from The Smiths and the “singer” from New Order got together and formed a supergroup in the 90s? Half of you are probably thinking “if it were any good, I would have heard about it before now,” and the other half of you are thinking “thanks a lot, Dr. David Thorpe, I had forgotten all about that painful disappointment.” Guess what: you’re both right!

Electronic is kind of like Bruce Willis and Demi Moore’s daughter Rumer: two reasonably attractive people bred and managed to spawn a creature with only the bad features of the two of them. Instead of combining the pop guitar virtuosity of Johnny Marr’s Smiths days with Bernard Sumner’s compellingly abstract New Order lyrics, Electronic mashed together New Order’s chintzy Regret-era dance-rock with the uninspired blandness of Marr’s hired-gun studio guitarist days. This is the sound of two artists meeting up at the absolute bottom of their game, and it crackles with about as much electricity as a bowl of oatmeal.

they had some catchy songs.

That is such a mean comment about Rumer though....heehee...but kinda funny at the same time.

I loved 'getting away with it' and 'get the message' - i couldn't wait for the album, but it stank. The last single i liked by electronic was 'disapointed' which sums them up really.

The track Forbidden city is quite catchy and very good, but half way through the cd I stopped it and played New Order's Get ready. I played that almost all the way through. I agree with the singles you mention, Get the message is a classic in my book.

Disappointed, Getting Away With It, Get The Message and Patience Of A Saint are all fantastic singles. To not at least appreciate the fact that these are well crafted, catchy pop songs - albiet not to his taste - reflects badly on the reviewer.

Looks like this guy just wanted to appear funny for the sake of it and tried to fit his quips in to the review.

This was a nifty record for it's time. Hell...it's still a nifty record because it showed a great collaboration between two artists. Sure...it wasn't the greatest record, but it definitely had some great catchy songs. You can listen to the whole cd and not get bored. Their 1st cd is by far the best. The 2nd and 3rd one isn't worth it at all.
