First virtual Best Of on iTunes / new "The Youngest..." download only release

Stefan Krix writes:
iTunes Germany is offering the 5th live version of the current single The Youngest Was The Most Loved as a download. This version is different to the previously published four versions of the same track from Gateshead (30.04.), Grimsby (04.05.), Manchester Apollo (06.05.) and Manchester Opera (07.05.); it comes from the concert in Sheffield (03.05.).

In addition, they are offering a bundle of tracks which - as far as I know - is the first online only Best Of of Morrissey called iTunes Essentials: Morrissey . It contains the following 20 tracks:

Irish Blood, English Heart
You Have Killed Me
The First Of The Gang To Die
The Ordinary Boys
Disappointed
Dear God, Please Help Me
Let Me Kiss You
Margaret On The Guillotine
I Have Forgiven Jesus
America Is Not The World
Life Is A Pigsty
Dial-A-Cliché
Sing Your Life
Our Frank
(I'm) The End Of The Family Line
At Last I Am Born
Break Up The Family
In The Future When All's Well
I've Changed My Plea Tu Guilty
I Like You (Live Sessions@AOL)

I don't know how this collection was compiled (maybe number of downloads?), but this is worth a discussion for sure. In addition, is a virtual compilation an official release, despite a 'release date' 27.06.2006?

itunes 'best of's (Score:1)
These itunes 'best of's (they exist for many bands) are just done by itunes staff. Not based on anything in particular. And this isn't a sign that an accompanying physical release will be forthcoming.

It seems strange that another official "Best Of" hasn't been served to us for a while.

It would be interesting to see if Sanctuary compiles a "Best Of" of tracks from "You Are The Quarry" and "Ringleader Of The Tormentors" in the future...a compilation much like "World Of Morrissey" back in '95. Sanctuary needs some money, eh?

        essential? (Score:1)
five songs from the VH era, none from the BD era (unless yure counting "Disappointed" which was actually the b-side to "Everyday Is Like Sunday"), four songs from the KU era, none from the YA, VAI, SG and 'Maladjusted' eras, six songs from the YATQ era and five songs from the ROTT era. so "essential" as in spanning his entire solo career while representing only about half of it? whata brutal list.
