I can just about tolerate the PSB and even like some aspects of their work. But if Neil Tennant wants to get on the war-path with Morrissey...then I'm very very disappointed.

They are - well, not "cool" excactly, but certainly very interesting and talented. 'Very' is a delicious pop album, as is 'Behaviour' - 'Being Boring' and 'Liberation' are just gorgeous.

PSB make pop music as it should be - arch, witty but eminently memorable.

Besides, Neil is obviously right about Morrissey - only sycophants wouldn't see this.

OK I was bored and bought the latest PSB CD last week ( I go to the record shops every monday). I havent listened to it yet. But if this really is Neil Tennant's opinion of Morrissey, then I am very happy to bin the bleeding PSB CD or sell it on eBay for £4.99.

Seriously, some of you people really need to get out more often.

1) This is a subjective article by somebody apparently with an axe to grind against Pet Shop Boys and Neil Tennant in particular. That so-called quote is by no means necessarily accurate or correct.
2) Even if quote is correct, what is the big crime? He thinks Morrissey's music is timeless. How is that so terrible?
3) It is a fact that Neil and Chris both really like Morrissey as an artist. As I just mentioned in another thread, Neil has named Morrissey as the best lyricist of his generation, they both liked Quarry a lot and they both went to the show at the London Palladium on Sunday (and Royal Albert Hall in 2002).

To the people here saying that because of this they will now start to hate the Pet Shop Boys, I can only say: Grow up.

If you want the truth, the PSP's have been totally supportive of Morrissey and vice versa for many years. In fact, Neil is one of a small number of true musical stars in a music world containing a number of fools. Chris is a musical genius. Personally, I'm not sure about Chris's fashion sense, but that's another story...

The interview is quite obviously phoney. There are no quotes directly addressed to the so-called interviewer and the article consists entirely of information and "quotes" culled from other sources. I wish some of you would use a little critical judgement sometimes instead of slavishly devoting yourselves to sycophancy. Neil Tennant has been a life-long fan and Chris grew up a stones-throw away from Mozz yet all it takes to earn your irrational scorn is an "interview" from The Electric New Paper to raise your hackles? Sheesh!

Well, besides the fact that Tennant actually stated last week on the Jonathan Ross radio show that he adores Morrissey. It's just utterly pathetic to have people think that because some journalist has got interesting, we must shut our brains and ears to the art of music.

And to whoever said they would sell the new Pet Shop Boys album online (having bought but not heard) based on these fictional comments - really - fuck off and die.

Neil Tennant's always been a fan of Mozz, and for the record, he's right. Morrissey's music has generally sounded very similar to itself since Southpaw. Same mid-tempos, same melodies, same chord progressions. It's the mainstream fan's complaint of Morrissey in a nutshell, really. Hardcore fans like myself and others often fail to see this, as we'll always be inclined to listen to what he records, no matter its quality.

A little constructive criticism from a peer can't hurt Morrissey, as long as he's willing to listen to it. Tennant's comments ring a bit of the pot calling the kettle black (as I'm sure he knows), but they still hold merit nonetheless.

neil should know, after all the psb records have the same sound(you place a 80's cd next to the present and there is hardly a difference)which is not necessarily a bad thing... anyone who listens to u2 presently will understand that sometimes it is best to keep the old ways, instead of making pastiche of lesser bands... emily dickenson wrote the same poem a million times, so did poe, variations of the same subject... thank god mozz is not singing about crap we wouldn't care about... we know what we signed for, and that does not make us sycophants at all. you want something else? simple, find something else.

That the PSB have continually attempted to drag themselves up to the level of Morrissey and The Smiths is laughable. Didn't Tennant even once suggest his band were "The Smiths you can dance to"? In your dreams, Tennant, as I suspect you already know. Sour grapes will get you and Lowe nowhere, sad old men.

I'm almost sure he said all the nicest things on the tv documentary broadcasted in the UK last week + he goes to the shows and usually praises Morrissey.
This is just media gossip, I think it's so vile to start slagging off other artists because they don't like YOUR favourite singer.

I'd be really surprised if Neil Tennant made such a derogatory comment about Morrissey. The Pet Shop Boys were on Radio 2 on, 27 May, I think, around 11-ish. The interviewer mentioned Morrissey and Neil Tennant made some positive noise and then Chris Lowe chipped in with 'Oh, I really liek Morrissey - his show has been excellent' or something like that.

I was a fan of the Pet Shop Boys many years ago, but they are really past their prime whereas Morrissey isn't just yet. And I met NEil Tennant a few years back and he was extremely pleasant - can't believe him being such a bitch.

So, see this as a neutral comment from someone who likes both PSB and Morrissey.
